I've owned my 85 MK2 for 10+ years now, and around 150K miles, it started a small oil leak at the head gasket. Basically, where the oil return hole is in the head and block.

I considered just changing the head gasket and be on my way. But the expense and time would have been better investing in a lower mileage motor. Possibly a turbo motor....

So, this lead me to investigate a 7MGTE.

I liked the 7MGTE since it was complete, with all the designed features of a turbo charged engine. Plus, I live in a state where smog laws applied, so turbocharging a 5/6M would be out of the question for a daily driver.

So, I picked up the Toyota wiring manuals for my 85, plus three other manuals, a 87 electrical, 89 electrical and 89 engine repair manual.

Second task was to find the right 7MGTE motor. It took three months until I found a low mileage (60K) 7MGTE from a 89 MK3.

Then on to investigate the wiring and modifications to install the 7MGTE my MK2....
