hey, just looking at changing the crap ole stock ole suspension in my 82 mark2.
how low can i go before i run into troubles like tyre rub etc?
im looking at putting new kyb super gas shocks in and cobra lowering springs.

well the biggest problem with MK2 when lowering it is the lack of adjustments of camber especially the rear... the lowest lowering springs available is the ST 1.3 drop but some people are having problem with inside wear at the rear tires due to negative camber... the eibachs are different though... people complain that the front did not drop w/ eibachs

I've been told that lowering the supra can really mess up the stearing chachteristics (yes I know I cant spell)

How true is this

Mine is one of the lowest and doesn't have any problems steering at all. I have had some problems with the inside tire wear but this last alignment was great and so far no problem on this last set of tires.

The lowest mk2 I have seen is Mark Hynes from the Toronto area. He has custom heavy duty springs, and sits almost 2" lower than mine, and I have Eibachs. He has absolutely no steering problems at all, however he does have some wicked negative camber in the rear! He is running BF Goodrich Comp T/A 245/50/14's on the stock wheels with no rubbing that I noticed when riding in and driving his car.

I have DOBI springs in my car, tokico shocks and struts, addco sway bars, a cusco strut tower bar and 16'' wheels. Check out the New exhaust and valve covers post in the pictures section for pictures of the ride.

lowering you car can cause steering problems, know as bumpsteer. This happens as you compress the suspension the tie rod ends are force to their max and change the rack geometery. most common way to remove this is through Roll Center Adjusters.
