Does the factory sunroof on my 84 have a limit switch that is supposed to stop the motor once the roof panel is shut? Mine continues to push as long as I hold the switch down, most newer cars will stop the motor at closed.

Really? I would have sworn that mine shuts off just as it closes all the way. Now I'm going to have to go out and open/close it just to find out.

If it does shut up, you clutch is very tight, I wouldn't leave my finger
there to try it !
In mine, the motor still turn slowly, but really sound like 'working hard'

yeah there is defnitly no limit switch, its just the motor loading up as it cannot move the cables anymore.

If you want it to last, take your finger off as soon as it is fully closed. If you let it do much of the 'click, click, click' the motor will soon no longer move the sunroof at all. A new motor won't fix this, but replacing the track with a good junkyard one will make it work like a new car.

I have an 85....and when the roof is fully closed the motor stops...but there is still a drain on the alt until I take my finger off the button.

There is a clutch on the motor that worked great when the car was new, but it seems that after a few years the clutch pack gets tight and does not work properly. I looked at mine to try and fix it back in about 1987 and did not see an easy way to do it. Just let off the switch once it reaches the end of travel and be happy!

According to how I understand the EWD, there is a curcuit breaker which in theory should cause the motor to stop when it hits either end.

in theory should cause the motor to stop when it hits either end.The overload (self-reset) is within the black housing, as all other motors of the similar size (windows, headlights). But don't rely on it, it is a protection, which takes a few seconds to heat and cut power.
