popped my hood to install new air filter, catch tank is nowhere to be found. it used to sit on the ac compressor all day long, but since i took that out... haha now i know why its missing :P. i even put it on that stupid mounting slot thing that never holds it on. oh well. i dont need it. that cap never stayed on the tank anyways. haha.

yeah thats where the mount is at, but the tank never stayed on. so i just let it sit on the ac compressor, which is right below the mount.

you should really have one, as the engine temperature changes and pressure is exceeded it will push it into the tank and then when pressure is gone and it cools it sucks it back in, by not having a tank it will cause you to loose coolant and get air into the system.

Don't ghetto rig your car with a flipping soda bottle. Get an over flow tank from someone on the forum, and fix your car with a real Toyota part.

Come on man.....

Shipping on that plastic overflow bottle would be next to nothing....it doesn't weigh anything. My reasoning...I just believe in doing things the right way. If it were "Me", I would know that stupid bottle was under my hood and it would bug me. Kind of like using chunks of green garden hose as heater hose would bother me too...I've seen it done, and it looks stupid. Ghetto rigged stuff looks like ass, IMO.

Because my Mk2 is almost completely OEM (except for wheels and stereo), I'd want to keep it that way...but again, that's me.

The "soda bottle" mod isn't something I'd brag about. 8-)

Don't even try that soda bottle thing.

Chances are it won't have nough capacity. You'll end up spilling antifreeze all over the place when it gets hot, then when it cools down again and wants to suck it back in, you won't have enough coolant in the bottle (it's on the ground now remember) for it to take in and it will grab air. On startup it will circulate that aire and you could get an air lock. Bad stuff happens then, like warped stuff. You'll never know if it is at the proper level either. there is a reason that "expansion chamber" is mounted where it is and has marks on it where the level should be. mounted in another spot throws off those benchmarks on the tank and could impede flow in and out of it.

Just get the proper one. their cheap, hell someone just offered a free one.

i think it would stay in place if you hooked it up right, i see your getting a little angry, we're just trying to help your car operate correctly, if you wanna go and rigg it thats you're porogative.

how would it not stay in place? was the tank worn out and not holding on the slider? hell i wulda at least tied a rope around it to the slider to make it stay, even that would look better than a soda bottle

yeah it never stayed on the slider. pos always popped off. my car never gets hot enough to spew out any coolant anyways so im good for a couple days i guess.
