Getting hacked this weekend really woke me up. :) Steve agreed that a switch to VBulletin was the right thing to do, so after many hours, vBulletin is now up and running well. Everything from the old board has been transfered over with success (I think) :)

I still need to fix the smilies, as well as change the 'look and feel' of the site. Hopefully, this will be complete tonight sometime.

In summary: this software kicks ass, and is much more robust than phpBB. This is a good thing for Steve and I. :) The search seems to work better than the phpBB one, which is also great news. I will be adding some cool features over the next few weeks...to help enhance the cs.com experience. A vendor section will be built out over the next few days as well.

If you find any bugs etc. Please email them to me at: mkiimike@hotmail.com

Just now logging. The new look & software looks pretty nice so far. Should be interesting navigating around, but I'll adapt.

Thanks Steve & Mike for making the changes!!!

NP. I spent ~5 hours total from installing to importing, to triple checking everything...but it was well worth it. :) Need to work out a few more kinks..and we should be good.

The forum is quite easy to navigate IMO.

So far so good, this looks great and it's working well. Mike was able to import everything and we messed with it for a few hours last night looking for problems.

The new location for you to bookmark is: http://www.celicasupra.com/vbforums

However ... if you navigate to http://www.celicasupra.com/phpBB2 it will take you to the same location with a redirect. You may also use the navigation buttons, or the banner at http://www.celicasupra.com as well.

Enjoy everyone - give it time, and learn how everything works. Once you get used to it, we promise that you'll enjoy the upgrade. As Mike says, the look and feel of the forum will be changing soon...this currently is "stock out of the box" vBulletin.

OK, I think I'll get used to it. The stock font needs to be changed, and I'm sure that the old look and feel will be back soon. After looking around a bit, I'm finding that it is more configurable than phpBB is - and I'm all for more secure applications.

Kudos to the admins for taking the time to keep the forum up and running!! Looking good so far!

BTW, as long as we're talking about forum maintenance - I'm willing to kick in a few $$$ again to help keep it going (hosting costs, whatever). LMK....Bob

Not necessarily that one as the primary font...I just picked it off the menu, for the hell of it. The stock font, at least in Firefox on this machine, is fugly (aliased, jaggy) and less easy to read.

Whatever everyone agrees on is OK. Just thought I'd make a suggestion.

I'm using Firefox and the stock font is "verdana", looks fine on my end. It should look exactly like phpBB2 did.

Ha...that's funny. I just went over to a Windows machine (using Internet Exploiter) and brought the forum up. Yes, the stock font looks like phpBB did there, but the other two fonts that I used in the above messages look a lot worse (they look good on my boxes).

Oh, well. No worries, then.

two things i've noticed...

is there a way to increase the viewable posts per page above 40? to 50, 100, or higher?

second, is there a way to have the quickly reply window activated automatically without having to click on a "quick reply" button in a given post. Every other forum I've been to has this set up... wondering if there's something special here.

I've been using this style of forum on a couple other forums I frequent and I really like the setup. One thing (it may have already been mentioned) is that it would be good if people went into their settings and changed their "editior interface" sp? to standard and also change their settings to automatic reply....

Just a note to people who aren't used to Vbulliten, we have to manage our Sent Messages now as well as the Inbox ones.

One suggestion, In many other forums you can put the cursor over the thread title and a lil box appears with the first few lines of text in the thread. That would be a nice feature to see here since it saves alot of time without opening the thread since alot of titles are un-clear.

well i don't think they want us to pay like we did before. The point of the site is for a free place for us to commune as a supra group. I beleive that is why they are doing the vendor section. For advertisement purposes the vendors can pay to help fund the site.

Suggest changing the text of the date time and message # in the message header to a slightly larger and black font in the message header. It would make it easier for these eyes (and many others) to review them.

Yes, vBulletin is very good.

I have one immediate suggestion.

Allow for custom user defined color text.

This is available in vBulletin.

And maybe a forum if people want to post their color/font profiles.

04-23-2005, 06:45 PM
Looks awesome guys! I actually like the brighter look to this forum...not saying I like these specific colors...but to tell the truth, the gray on the old forum was a little drab, if you will. It still looked great, just not bright. **found flame suit my size, now to stop digging my hole**
Thank you guys for all the personal time you've put into setting up this new forum! I'm sure it's time that you could have been outside working on your cars, or just plain cruising, or doing some other favorite passtime (sp?).
One thing I noticed last time I was on...and I don't think has changed yet, is that the link to log off is at the very bottom of the page. If that could be changed so there is also a link at the top, that'd be awesome! No rush, just thought I'd mention it.
And hey, I agree with those who want to send you guys some beer money! Set up an account or something so that those of us who want to show our appreciation for all the time and effort you've put into this forum can send some money! It doesn't have to be something everyone has to do (like a membership fee), just it appears there's a few of us who have offered, already.
Keep up the good work!

lechner

The colors and fonts are there. Try Editing options under User/CP, at the very bottom. If you aren't getting that options, it maybe due to the browser you are using.

I noticed that the "New Post" listing does not sort with the lastest post of a thread.
I tryed to understand how the list is generated, but couldn't figure.

Jocelyn...

What you do is click on "Quick Links" then "New Posts" and then to view the latest post in the threads it shows you, find the http://www.celicasupra.com/vbforums/oivar/buttons/lastpost.gif symbol to the right of the post, near the name of the last person posting...and you'll go to the most recent post in that thread.

I've been using this style of forum on a couple other forums I frequent and I really like the setup. One thing (it may have already been mentioned) is that it would be good if people went into their settings and changed their "editior interface" sp? to standard and also change their settings to automatic reply....

New forums GREAT!!! Thanks guys!

Ummmm I feel like a total ass but I've read this thread at least three times and have yet to figure out my little problem.

The standard editor ... no problem.

Change settings to automatic relpy ... Went to user/CP, edit options, selected "instant email notifcation" and clicked save settings.

But I still don't recieve any emails/notifacation when a new reply is added to one of my subscribed threads. :screwy:

Have I missed something?

(waiting for someone to point out some stupid button thats half the size of the page I didn't click... 'cause I'm a retard. :ugly_08: )

Thanks.

Ok...ready for it?

"something" :eek:

--------------------------------

I am not having the problem that is mentioned above. When I post in a section, I get email alerts that there are new posts added since my last visit...so I don't know what the problem is, unless something is funky with your settings. I looked at your settings just now, and they appear correct to me.

Just in case no one else has noticed this feature yet, if you click on the number of posts in a thread, a little window pops up and lists each person has posted in the thread and how many posts they have made in that thread. Sorta cool.

Is there any way to limit the number of times a single user can post his signature in a thread? I'm assuming this would have to be a software hack. I'm getting kind of sick of seeing someone burning their face off because of a beverage au Flambe(on fire)..

I'll look into it and see what I can do. I don't know if there is a setting for it, but normally (as common courtesy) you're only supposed to have your sig appear one time when you're posting in a given thread, especially when you have a photo it in. If your sig is nothing but text...usually it's not a big deal.

If I find a setting for it, I'll set it for "sig appears only one time per thread"

Well, I got this problem sorted out and I figured I'd post what the problem was just in case someone is as dumb as I am but just won't admit it. :ugh:

My email account is an old hotmail one and thus is heavily spammed. I had to add the old email address of "malloy@celicasupra.com" to my trusted address list or else it would end up in the junk mail folder because it was sent automatically by the server and looks like repetitive spam.

When the new site was set up the automated email address was changed to "mkiimike@hotmail.com" and therefore, was ending up in my junk mail folder. I use Outlook to check my hotmail account and never even thought of checking my hotmail settings. I've been playing with every other program on my computer trying to fix this and it was at the hotmail end of things all a long.

Anyhoo, problem solved. (now don't ever change anything ever, ever again...) :runaway: :D

J/K.....I know it need to be done. Thanks!
