hey folks.

just a quick question here, what is a good torque value for the bolts that hold the centers into two piece wheels?
and should i be using thread lock on them?

thanks in advance

IIRC, we used 50 ft/lbs and had nylock nuts on the ones we used on our race car in college.

what size are the bolts?

do they use nuts on the back end?

It all depends on the bolts and nuts used for the torque specs. Ask the manufacturer of the fasteners for this value.

The fasteners I had purchased had no nylock, so I used "blue" Loktite (is that spelled correctly?). Worked great, four years of so running now.

yes "blue" is spelled correctly. :p

do not use 50 lbs, you'll probably snap them off at that torque. Like Rsdeo said, totaly depends on the hardware. Sometimes repair manuals have torque specs listed based on bolt size and thread pitch, but material grade can affect it too. What size of bolt and or hex ends do these wheels use? And definatly go for the thread locker, nylon or not.

oh and another little note for owners of 2 and more specificly 3 piece wheel owners, you should really retorque your wheels every year. Some 3 piece wheels are bad for loosening up over time, especially if they've been taken apart before.

no idea what class they are.

hex head bolts, about 10mm heads on them, so probably 8mm body.
there are nuts on the backside, not nylocked, so i guess ill find some blue threadlock.

lol, after reading this thread again, i realized that buddyj said ft/lbs... i had read that to be 50 inch/lbs.
i dont think theyll be very high torque though, guess ill look thru the charts.
