First do some reading on the site. 86 1/2 is a MkIII you want an 86, its the same as an 85 with the exseption of the the light. Nothin really that special. Another thing you should know is that they didnt make "86" they are "85" carried over to the next model year and had a third tail light added.

A 86 MKII DOES exist!!! They were all built between August 85 - November 85, and they WERE REGISTERED as 86 models. But technically yes, they are basically 85 models carried over to the 86 model year.

86 center mount brake light. Damn impossible to find. 5 - 6 years ago, I had Toyota look up one via a nationwide parts search. Only ONE complete new one was left in the US, it was somewhere on the east coast & Toyota wanted ~$500 for it. For a CLASS E item..... Best bet is a junkyard.... "I" have yet to run across one in a junkyard. The only ones I've seen are on "still driveable" cars, and only 3 out of every 10 seem to work when the brake lights come on, the rest either don't work, or the bulb is burned out.

86's also got those funny vibration dampeners on the rear cross member :P

...and i'd be interested to see how many 86 5m's have a 6M lower timing cover, because mine does.

yea i have a 3rd brake light, and the builbs are either burnt out or the metal wire is corroded. i opened mine and all i had to do was clean the metal wire and it worked, honestly its a bad design for a 3rd brake light thats not really all that enclosed in something sealed. right now it doesnt work, and im guessing its the metal wire again. so 500 dollars lolz isnt really worth it.

Third brake light on my 86 is out too... not too sure if its wiring or bulb, haven't checked.

i have the 86 hatch wing with the 3rd brakelight. It dosen't work i think i need to rewire it. I get no resistance in it so i thing the socket is bad cause i put a new bulb in it *shrug*

If you find someone that claims he has one for sale just be sure that it is from an 86 MK2 with a money back guarantee if it's not.

I had a member here sell me what was suppose to be a lens (all I needed) off an 86 and it isn't even close, maybe from a MR 2 but not from a MK2. This was before the "seller/buyer rating" or I would have fried his azz.
