rear diff leaking

is it hard to change the gasket of the rear diff? its a p-type manual wit lsd.

No. Just drain the fluid then pull off the cover.

Which gasket or seal do you want to change? The rear cover gasket is easy. The side seals require you to pull an axle. The front pinion seal require disassembly of pretty much the entire diff.

need to do the rear cover gasket, oil is leaking there.

It is fairl easy to change the differential cover gasket...

drain, remove cover, replace gasket, return cover, and fill w/ fluid... and your set to go.

note... be very, very, very carefull in loosening the diff drain plug and fill plug.... they tend to get strip pretty easy.... then the problem begins... :mad: damn fill plug head got stripped :x

be sure to get Redline fluid... not sure which one but it should be somewhere in the past post.... putting wrong LSD fluid on the toyota LSD tend to ruin the friction discs.... wolla LSD does not work no more

I've been through the pain of rounding the fill plug - some moron had tightened it to a million ft-lb and it just wouldn't come out. :( I ended up welding a big 17mm nut on the end of the plug, so I shouldn't have that problem again!

you can get a differential oil from ford that has lsd oil premixed, i have heard good things about it from other supra sites that recommend that or redline.

OE Toyota fluid worked fine when the cars were brand new. As the diff wears though, the Toyota fluid isnt good enuf to protect the diff and keep it quiet.

Its just that the Ford fluid is better suited for a high miles Supra diff. It keeps them quiet longer and protects the discs inside. Dont ask me why, it just does!

Redline synthetic differential additive works well too, especially with the appropriate Redline gear oil.
