my dyno video.
stock 7mgte, W58, 3" dump, exhaust and hi-flow cat. running stock 5psi with freshly rebuilt head and gasket. aftermarket head bolts, stock gasket.
previous owner claimed 189rwhp, but on this run i only got a best of 171rwhp. thats a bit low for a 7mgte with exhaust isn't it?
edit: working on hosting the video somewhere.... and changed kw to hp :)
Edit: Got the video link now:

thanks

Check your link bro. Cant get to it.
(and to get the most feedback, might want to convert kW to HP, which ends up ~170rwhp)
...and yes, that seems quite low. Were you having AF ratio problems?
Can you scan in your dyno sheet? ...might be some info hiding in that mutha'

yeah, thats really low. my first 7m on a blown stock turbo at 5psi (and tons of oil smoke from the exhaust) and only mods being mhg, 3in exhaust, and hks smf, i made 227rwhp and 236rwtq. and the a/f ratio was off the scale rich as soon as the turbo spooled. so prolly had a boost leak. and that motor had 2 holes on the block i patched from a busted rod. as ghetto rigged as that motor was, i was happy with it. post your sheet. something isnt right.

only 5 psi? stock is 6-7 psi is it not.

the spring in the actuator wears out. when i got my upgraded turbo, it would only run 5psi till i swapped the actuator with the one on my blown ct. the blown ct made 7psi till the oil seals went. then would only push 5

There is not excuse for NOT running a well-made manual boost controller. Not only for the ability to run the boost you'd like, but with the way boost peaks and holds perfectly instead of blending in and out, I dont see how people run without one.
dawesdevices.com mbc LINK (http://www.dawesdevices.com/hybrid.html) has worked perfectly on a number of cars I've worked on. Given, its $15 more than some cute anodized aluminum piece of shit you could pick up from ebay, the thing is proven, fastest reacting, longest-lasting MBC out there.
(oh yea... and gimme a dyno sheet with AFR's at the bottom please)

i got one from dr. jones on sf's and it works just fine. looks exactly like the one on that website too, and is also made with synthetic materials. plus, it was only like $25 shipped from him.

running an mbc or ebc on a weak wastegate actuator won't fix the problem. You still get some funky boost behavior. Running an avc-r, I still had to shim my WG to make up for the weak spring, cause it just wouldn't control boost properly. It helped, but a properly working actuator would be best.

thing is, iirc, toyota doesnt sell just the actuator.

thanks guys. i've fixed the video link... and warning, my car isn't very pretty at the moment... but im thinking of either changing the engine into my white one or painting the red one black...
Wastegate actuator spring aye? Is that expensive/hard to fix? See, even with my low dyno run, the car still runs perfect, and is fairly quick (I used to have a 5me) and pulls a 14.2 on the 1/4, so I don't think anything is dramatically wrong.... I'm thinking it was just a weird dyno, considering the previous owner's efforts...
As for boost controllers, I have a Profec B sitting in my room. I haven't installed it yet because I have a lifetime warranty on my headgasket- and my mechanic can't install the boost controller and keep my warranty until summer, when he can tune it ensuring it wont lean out/detonate/etc (on a hot day etc)... So I have to wait til december :(
As for dyno sheet, its a crap one. :( I had it done at dyno day, so I didn't get my choice of scale (I wanted torque, RPM and A/F, but instead got useless stuff) and I didn't even get to choose my best run as a printout... but here it is nevertheless, in it's uselessness. It was done in 3rd gear too.

Mind you I'm off to another dyno day on September 10th, so hopefully I'll get nearer to 190rwhp (going to change plugs, leads and clean up some shit, perhaps even a new actuator spring)... Thanks for the help guys

dude that is ridiculously low for a 7mgte. Arent you supposed to dyno in 4th gear due to the 1:1 load. Hmm check it out with another dyno.

IIRC, you can dyno in any gear you want. But for the most part a 4th gear dyno run yields the most power on the dyno. I cant remember the specifics, but you'll end up with lower HP/TQ if you dyno in a lower gear because of how the dyno is set up, and the load that is on the car.

um, you should be able to get 230-250rwhp easy enough. shim the wastegate with 4 washers, should be ~10psi. its a common mod. the 7m will hit fuel cut before you lean out to hurt anything. and yeah, id do a tuneup and check the timing as well.

Every "stock" 7mgte I have ever seen dyno'd ran at 210-225rwhp,in the 6-7psi range.Anything under 200 and I'd be wondering where the loss is,and NOT be very happy.I'd check into another dyno, see what the difference is.

I'd be pissed....When I dyno I'd better have at least 250 to the wheels. If not....turning up the boost hehehehhe

the stock MKIII has about 230 i dont see why a MKII wouldnt have that and better with a 7M-GTE
It's been well documented that Australian dynos read lower.
I even emailed Dyno dynamics hoping for an email response which I could post.
I received a phone call from the head engineer who explained why Aussie dynos read lower. His answer - "The American dynos lie"
Edit: Just found this on their site : http://www.dyno.com.au/shootout.htm

Uhmmmmm... no........
The 230 stock HP reading is from the crank, NOT the wheels.
One year @ Vegas, there were SEVERAL MKII's that dyno'd that were still stock with minimal mods done to them. And the majority of them were all Don Culbertson/Shawn Pease installs. And all of them dyno'd at around 217 - 220 at the wheel. VERY consistant!!
Getting over 230 @ the wheels can be done... At a BPU+ level. Leave it at just a BPU level, or if you do very minimal mods (intake, exhaust, maybe/maybe not a downpipe) and you'll be right at, or below 230 @ the wheels.

I had 170 to the wheels with my 6m na..hhmmmm.
Chris...Would I be considered bpu ed....
After market air filter.
2 1/2 mandrel i/c piping. suprasport elbow.
3"D/P
3" cat back Mandrel bent.
Megan racing muffler.
10-12 lbs of boost tunned with a hks safr.
If so....
Give me an estimate of what hp to the wheels I could run.
