Well all, Ive finally gotten the cylinder head back from the machine shop. and I am assembling the reconditoind to factory spec (mostly-all NEW valvetrain) 5mge, in the 85 mkii body. Ive done swaps before-but only on Detroit 8's. Should I install the engine/tranny as 1 unit? Seems easier, but Im sure there are things not to do in a certian order. If anyone has any Do's or Dont's, id really appreciate it.

BTW-Topline has 5 mge stock-spec, new-not re-man., cams for $US145ish a peice.

YES, install together, especially if it's a 5 speed... or you're be struggling for an hour trying to slide the two together (believe me Ive been there and done that)

Otherwise it's basically pretty simple. Don't smash any water hoses, or lose any ground wires, lol

Raise the car and drop the front subframe. Then change the engine/tranny out of the car.

Well that is the way I would do it if I had a real shop and not just the shade tree over the drive way.

I have one, I just don't think it's visible in any of my pics. I am however, missing some fusible links :hsugh: which I need to make when I get my car back

I just finished mine a few months ago and i have to agree with tanya.. I put the whole car on jack stands 10" in the front and 15" in the rear.. It slid right in on the first try and had it going in about 10 hours.. Total from start to finish..2 days 5 hours a peace..Get to do it agian to replace the crank and bearings, probably just do the rings to just to be safe..

i have done many engine swaps in these.

me and dogstar keeping joking that we should get a web cam and save it, we can do a complete pull, from pulling the vehicle into the garage to pushing it out without a motor way too fast, lol.

i think last time we did it in 2/3 of toyotas book time, and we were teaching someone at the same time so that slowed us down, lol.
