It has come to that time again. I need some good, agressive street tires with adeqate wet traction.
Size range 225-235x45-60XR16, whats your recommendations.
Was looking previously at the following
Yokohama ES100
Kumho Supra
Goodyear Eagle F1's
Falken Ziex
Etc.
Not looking to pay more than $500 for the set w/o mounting/balancing.
Any recommendations, AutoXrs feel more than welcome to start flaming tires.
I am looking for a good sticky/wet tire. 15-20k mile tire acceptable.
Thanks,
Mitch

Stay far away from the Supra 712's if you are looking for wet traction, they are absolutely horrible in the wet. These tires have been discontinued anyway. The Yokohamas are excellent and will last you a good long time. BF Goodrich Gforce Sport are exceelent in the wet also, and very low priced and long lasting. I also still really like the Dunlop FM901's. I cant really comment on the Goodyears, I have never driven a car with them. I think the Ziex will not offer enough grip to make you happy compared to the other tires you listed, its more of a performance all season tire, the Falken FK451's are a much better tire if you want to go with Falken.

Considering they are the same price. If you were buying them which would you go with?
I have heard that the Dunlops were kinda loud.

I have Yokohamas on mine and have had them on there for a long time. I'm super happy with them :)

I 2nd the Kumho 711's. I have them on my 85 and were previously on my 84, and I highly recommend them.

I have used several differnt brands of tires on my MKII. The most expensive was the Goodyear Eagle F-1 GS-D3. They were very expensive and wore out in 10K miles. I than went to Fuzion ZRi tires. They were too noisy but great traction and ware. I have been doing some research and now I'm going to go to Ecsta Supra 712's. They are very cheap at www.tirerack.com. My tire sizes are 255/40/17 and 225/40/17. My rims are Speed Star Racing SSR DP-1's. They are 3 piece 5 spoke rims. They have black centers with polished aluminum rims. These are the best after market rims for my taste. Go to the tirerack web site and do a by tire search and the site will give you all the options that you may want.
