i can somewhat turn a wrench, tho new to the board im not too new to cars. but my buddy who owned my 83 celica supra for about 8 years even was stumped by this stupid problem. i almost embarassed to say it,but i need to change the wiper blades and we both can't figure out how to do it properly.once again im not retarded nor is he. i am unsure and want to do it the right way,so he suggested coming to this board. he is on the mr2 forum and recieves alot of good advice from it. so i figured i'd try here and see what results i yield.
i realize as my first post i have invited scrutiny and other similar remarks, but if i get just a little bit of the desired advice it'd be worth it. also i plan on becoming a regular to this board.
thanks in advance

Had the same issue. Had to bend (just a little) the tabs to get the ones in there out, like they were pinched in after the new blade was installed.

Put in the refills, made sure they locked, took out put back several times to make sure I could change again in the future if needed.

Probably not the official method but they have stayed put.

Kudos for your bravery, I was afraid to ask.

Are the wiper blades the original ones, or some aftermarket ones????

And if they are the original metal ones from Toyota, do they still have the original non-removable backing plate on them???? (well, they can be removed).

If so, go here... It's VERY easy to get the rubber refill piece out.... See the picture that I have posted that's from the Owners Manual.
