View Full Version : Easy way to swap out drivetrain + front suspension?

As much as I'd hate to part with my own, I'm sort of half-heartedly looking for another Supra with no rust and a good interior. Mine's not awful, but I've got some rust on my hatch, sunroof, the rear quarters are starting to get holes in them, so-so repaint job, cracked dash, seats, etc, etc.

I have done a lot of work to my car-- front brakes, struts w/ new mounts, springs, reman'd r&p, tie rod ends, new control arms/ball joints/bushings, 2jz swap with a Norbie-style crossmember. So I would want to swap over the front crossmember, struts, brakes, engine and transmission. I'm wondering, how hard would it be to leave the wheels on, and just pop off the fasteners on the top strut mounts, the front crossmember, and the transmission crossmember, and lift the car high enough to sort of cart the whole deal out of there? Could I lift the car high enough with a regular engine crane, or would I need a forklift or something like that?

Anyone done this before? I remember Norbie talking about it once but I can't seem to find the thread.

Thanks guys
Shiva

If you want to do it that way i would say drop it all onto a pallet or something, then lift the car and drag the engine and stuff out that way, i've done it on fwd crapaliers before, didn't work great, but worked.

honestly i'd probably just do a regular engine/tranny pull, and the drop the suspension/crossmember by itself.
