ok well, my wheels now are in really good shape.. never curbed but there is no clear coat left and its a pain in the ass to clean them. my plan was to get them powdercoated.

those are a couple older pics but you get the idea.
i was just at my powdercoater and i was talking to him goin over powder colors and the price and what not.. and since i got him some business b4 about a year ago he is cuttin me a deal.. 50 dollars a wheel.. whatever color i want.. personally i was thinking of a gloss black with the center still chrome.. and or a gunmetal color.
my question to all is what other color(s) would look decent on my car.. its an 86 SDR. thought id get some other peoples opinions b4 i went ahead and got them powdercoated. thanks-andrew

I saw some done black with a polished lip I really liked that look. It's easy to polish the lip, but doing the whole wheel is a pain. Or maybe gloss black with a red stipe in the groves.

My $0.02 - stock look with painted black stripes in the grooves and clearcoat looks best....the clearcoat will really bring out the color on your car.

Mirror black with 95% reflectance is nice....also, smoked crome...you could do more than one color, like the insides black, and the rest a silver or crome...does take a little more work and two times in the cooker, well, three if you count the first time to cook any gases out....go to eastwood company's website for a good listing of colors

black and silver and or chrome. dangerous first the life of the chromes are questionable this is really a color that is still in development imo. iirc dupont or prismatic has a new chrome that has a clear over the top of it. looks nice but is better for piping than wheels. black is the easiest and I agree. deffenately want to pre-bake wheels and almost everything. light and dark, chrome and black that is gonna take alot of work and even more tape. Which for you non-coaters is simply a tape that masks and won't melt. problem is that it's like this plastic with adhessive not very bendable/plyable like tape. I would pick black unless you want your wheels at the coaters for a bit. #1 tip i could give you NEVER rush anything with powdercoaters, I thinks you already know this as Moo becuase you said it your only driver. I'm in the same peridickament. btw 200for 4 wheels is pretty good thats what we(well my friends businees that I help at ) usually charge but we are pretty nice on price. So keep us posted man! I want to see the work-Larry

:stupid:
Its cheap and easy as well if you don't want to remove the machining lines. All Black stock wheels just scream JDM tyte drifter wannabe IMHO.

I did mine all black with some spray paint and love the look. If I had that 50$ deal, i'd definately get them done, but my wheels looked like trash so I didn't mind painting over them. The all black makes it look VERY beefy. I got 235s in the rear and it looks great. I had the lip polished at first and, to me, it made the rims look even smaller than they already are.
Oh and Silver... :mm_twak: I am not JDM TITE!

Just to help with your choice, I had mine powdercoated black, then remachined, then powdercoated clear.

Photobucket makes the photo shrink. But you can get the idea. It looks more like a track car.

i think what im goin to do is as followed: i found an 85 silver mk2 the body is in perfect shape but the motor is blown. i was goin to buy the car as a parts car.. keep the stock wheels off that car and get the wheels powdercoated that are on my supra now.. i talkd to my powdercoater, he has a color that is very close to the stock sdr and he has gloss black in stock so whenever i have time to get the wheels/tires off im goin to go ahead and get them done asap.. ill just have to put my supra up on jackstands for a couple days lol
Oh dude, now you have a potential turbo project...

id love to build up a 7mgte and drop it in my supra. maybe at some point down the road, i plan to buy a new car or truck next year, then once the supra is off the road id most likely start a project, but for now im just keeping it clean and mantained.

Yes Yes Yes what he said...I'm adding another $0.02 to my post = $0.04.
Why bother messing w/the stock wheels??? The stock wheel (clearcoated) makes the MK2 IMHO. Otherwise, you might as well upgrade to 15 x 7 or 16 x 8 (i.e. someting like Compomotives) if you want a different look.
At least wait until the meet Moose - you will see my wheels, Greg's wheels, Curt's wheels, Bruce M's wheels and hopefully we will be able to talk you out of it :)
:rlky4: <-------- Anyone know what the hell this means???
