Hehe, I read yesterday about a cruise ship where you hit the alarm and doors comes down from the ceiling and seal off the kitchen, thus smothering the fire.
I can only thing of this big slab of metal falling from the ceiling crushing everything inside.
I want to see somebody come up with a chemical sprinkler system. Pull the pin and push the button and have it shoot out from little ports in the hood, or similar area. I think it's be cool.

those are the sytems that will be run on the v8 cars. one in the engine compart and one in the pass compart (diff activation cables of course) any "raced" car should have a fire system you dont have to work to use, cause from exp. when there is fire you dont have time to be f$%in with an extinguisher mount. with the systems yu have linked just pull the cable. JUST A PLAIN GOOD IDEA
Wayne, you might want to look at the 3M Halon replacements, original Halon is a carcinogen. Great product for fire suppresion but as stated enviromentally bad and potential health issues.
SFI is not a fire service term it is a racing foundation, its role is setting minimum performance standards for the automotive aftermarket and motorsport industries.

thanks for that link..
thanks all for the comments. so halon is actually not enviromentially safe. i will look into the 3m stuff. so sfi is a standard much like a regulation correct?
More like a certification ie DOT, Snell ratings for Helmets, safety belts etc.
Also check marine stores, boats have been using Halon replacements for engine compartments, hulls for fire protection systems for a number of yrs now.
Halon is still in use mostly in fixed facilities with computer rooms, its a very good fire extinguishing agent, non-corrosive, basically stops the chemical reaction of fire.
I still have a number of little extinguisher of Halon in the Supra, truck and 5th wheel along with dry chemical extinguishers "ABC" as well, in the garage I have a 2A10BC dry chem.
