This has been bothering me for quite some time now, i figured id do something about it b4 the meet on saturday- My question is: Is there a replacement i can still buy somewhere, or should i just take it down? i dont kno if the heat from the engine is hot enough to damage the paint?

i THINK toyota has one you can buy.
other guys have used the silvery glue on stuff that you can get at home depot type stores.

the paint should be fine, ive driven cars without hood insulation before.

My truck doesn't have hood insulation either, and I spray bombed that that.

i drove my old car around with no hood insulation for more than a year. paint didn't get any worse from it. lots more engine noise though.

Have heard that a correct OE Hood Blanket from Toyota is now a CLASS F item. Leslie Grover ordered one several years ago & they kept sending him the wrong one (not even close to fitting at all), before he finally got the correct one.

However, I think either last year, or over 1 1/2 years ago, Don Culbertson ordered one of the last ones from Toyota for Agatha.

So I believe the options now are either to try & find a good used one in a junkyard that's not falling apart, or find something from aftermarket. Anyone want to confirm w/ Toyota if a hood blanket is CLASS F???

Discontinued or not, the underhood blanket was almost 300 bux.

Andrew, unless your going to be concours quality anal, you can buy some nice insulation from a local speed shop, or even the Summit Racing catalog. It comes in varied widths and has a blingy silver foil outer finish. It will keep the sheetmetal isolated from the heat and quiet the motor at idle. Thats my advice. Ive never seen a decent one at the boneyard.

funny you mention that, i've been wanting to do that for 2-3 years now since my old cars insulation came out, but i could never find a goodish condition one to try anything on
