I am looking at a 85 supra that has been sitting for around 8 months.

I went to the guys house last thrusday and started it up.(started very easy)

He only wants $450 for it, But the body has a few rust spots,
And the oil pan gasket is shot.(how hard is that to replace?)

What would all of you do as soon as you got the car home?

I was going to:

Change oil and filter

Flush rad.

Change plugs and wires

And replace the oil pan gasket.

Is there anyother things i should do?

Change fuel filter, run injector cleaner through fuel system (drain & drop tank and clean out to be sure).

Depends on how difficult you consider this to be. Some peeps say it's not too bad, others will have a mechanic to do this (reason being...... At the very least, you need a engine hoist).

1. If it is a correct 85 motor, the oil pan does not have a actual gasket, it uses something called FIPG (fill in place gasket). Looks like a sealant that you have to squeeze out of a tube (like toothpaste).

2. Re-sealing the pan is pretty easy, it's getting to the pan that some peeps will find a bit difficult. Reason being.... You can't just simply drop the pan from the bottom of the motor. You can loosen the bolts & loosen the pan from the motor. Problem is that it will not clear the car itself due to A: The pan will hit the front crossmember. B. The pan will also hit the oil pump pickup. In order to clear the crossmember & the pickup, you need to hoist the motor up a couple of inches w/ a engine hoist. Then it will clear everything. Reseal the pan & re-install and you're good to go.

3. Other peeps have said that aftermarket gaskets are available for the later 5MGE. Most everyone has said that they don't seal all that great. FIPG is the better choice.
