Well my attempt at hoping the 7M swap might pass a normal smog check failed. Two smog places said no go. The 1st opened the hood closed it and said I had to go to the test only. The test only opened the hood and said it won't pass because it has a 7MGTE (the whole string too) engine out of a 89-92 Supra. I guess 7MGTE swaps in Mk2s are common knowledge now. It completely floored me they knew exactly what engine it is considering it doesn't say 7M anywhere. And for the 2nd strike I think something in the rear end broke. I guess I'm the 1st to break something in an aftermarket LSD lol. Well at least the car runs good. Although I don't know what people talk about with mk2s being so fast with after a 7m swap. Off to the referee I guess after I get whatever that clunk is fixed.

Then there is something wrong with your car. What are your mods? It should be night and day from your NA 6m. Get it to a dyno and see what see what it will do.

wait but I thought a Test only place could certify a 7MGTE swap if and only if it has all OEM parts on it?

dam bro that sucks that you couldnt get that thing smoged.

Nah...to be "legal", any motor swap has to go through the smog ref first, then it can be tested at a regular smog place.

Will probably have to do this eventually with mine...I have all the "legal" parts, but I think they're gonna bitch because of the custom FMIC, though it has nothing to do with emissions.

Basically stock with 3" exhaust and the FIPK. I figure about 200 rwhp. I figure I gained about 15-20 hp over the 6M, but hopefully more potential. What I'm talking about is how the 7m in the Mk2 turns it into somekind of Z06 killer that slaughters everything on the road talk. At best my car as it sets is maybe stock SRT4 fast. Either way its great to drive the car again after 2 years. I've got to fix whatevers wrong in the rear end next. The thing is driving almost like it has a spool in the rear end and its getting worse.

I think you need to come down to Socal and get a ride in Big Bobs car and then in Daves car. They will make you go weewee in your pants :)

I'm only going to wee wee my pants when I beat the guy with the 700 rwhp Vette at work. He gave me a ride last week and that thing screams.

what rear end do you have, and what boost pressure? if all you did was k&n and exhaust and didnt even shim the wastegate, your missing out. shim it to 10-11psi. have some fun with it. also, i made 230hp and 246tq at the wheels with a bad ct26 at 5psi and only mods i had was hks smf intake and 3in exhaust from the turbo back that i made myself eliminating the stock o2 elbow. motor was stock except the 2mm mhg.

Power Brute LSD w 3.73 gears. The boost is whatever it is with the stock actuator. No mods for now for smog check. I still haven't figure out what turbo and manifold to go with. I want one of the later HKS cast manifolds but they only seem to pop up on ebay at bad times. The glitzy RPS/SP/HPF/ebay manifold are kind of high profile cop bait.

you know you can get the log style hks mani from turbonetics for liek $400-500. depending where you get it. its the same thing, just has the tubonetics symbol instead of the hks marking. hks sold them the mold. also, let us know what you broke on the power brute. and if it was the actual lsd, id recomend the truetrac this time. also, i had the 4.30's when i first did the swap. the 3.727 takes ALOT of the low end grunt away from the 7m. put a 4.30 in there and itll be a whole diff animal. lol

The one I want is this one;

Totally different than the early 5M manifold turbonetics has a copy of. I'm not sure whats up with the clunking. It not like I was dumping the clutch or anything. I only rolled into the throttle a handful of times. The only thing I'm thinking is the solid non damped driveshaft I'm running with the R154. With the stupid RPS maxx clutch, which I hate, has to be hard on the driveline.

I thank god for no emisson testing down where I live. How exactly did you break it?

Nevermind, you answered.

I passed test only smog with this setup:

Turbonetics cast manifold, To4E-60 ball bearing, lexus, 550s, 3" turbo back, with 3" cat, Trust 7mgte intercooler. My stealth T4 kit was the best. It's now in another local car that was at vegas (light blue 89 NA).

Setup for 17 psi, SAFC turned back 20%

Eat that 1JZ!

i thought putting a newer motor into an older car meant nothing really, just had to pass the emmisions test. I am no emmisions expert though.
