Is the 1j w turbo ect - heavier or lighter than the 5mge?
How many lbs of boost were you set at during your aforementioned runs?
what grade of octain do you run at above boost rate?
Thanks man, A very envious onlooker here.

- I think it might be heavier. I took out my spare, jack, tire irons, rear hatch toneu, rear seats, passenger seat, and the spare cover and the car weighed 2900lbs without me in it.
- I was at 15psi or 16psi, I didn't look.
- I had 3 gallons of 93 octane mixed with 3.2 gallons of 100 octane, so I'd say about 96-97 octane
Thanks for the compliments :)

I'll upload the pics today after I get some work done. I don't really have a set plan for the ET it will run. The next things I'm gonna do is get my oil pressure gauge, tachometer, and a/c working. I have a nitrous kit laying around in my shop, I may throw a 75 or 100 shot on it and see what happens. I heard this one guy in a MK2 that weighed 2550lbs made 350rwhp on a 7M and sprayed either a 75 or 100 shot and ran a 10.66. If I can do that (dreaming here....lol) I'd be happy....lol

Here's his post;
Oh, and I was wrong, he has a 5M he says.
after a good night of sleep now i can talk.
all what you guys are saying is true but remember those guys are running 6m or 7mgte in their cars iam running a 1982 5mge in my car.
last in aruba we dynod @303 rwhp running 11.35 all day long my car weigths in @2525lbs with mi in it.
last night we went to the track to test the car the first run was horrible i did not tune the micro tech for the 440's it boged the i ran a 16.55 sec i came back took some feul out of it and try it again 12.55 took some more feul out 12.05 but my 60'was bat 1.68 the car was spinning in2nd 3rd.
then we put 50shot see wat was going to happen thad run was a fast run but not wat we want 11.07 @121 mph.
i had no time left to try see if it will go in we put the 75shot in let me tell you thad was the bomb the engine was spitting fire from the downpipe all the way down the track after all thad it was just a 10.66 @126mph so i think i am in the 10 second club.

...sounds like someone is expounding upon Jody's Success.
That car was a back-halved, 5m-gte runing additional injectors and spraying. Had fuel delivery problems, leaned and demolished a few pistons, last I heard. I'm curious to see what he can do with a real engine.

Yeah, backhalfing makes all the difference, but VERY impressive non-the-less. I figure with sticky tires and a working tach, I can probably drop my times down to maybe a 12.5....maybe a bit better....then spray a 75 shot!!!!!

Whats your rear camber and suspension setup like? If you can get your rear jacked up a bit, to the point of slight pos. camber at static (flat under accel), with some stiff shocks and soft sticky tires, you should be able to reap almost all the traction benefits of back-halving, the weight savings is null though. You'll just have to make up for it with more power!
Best of luck,

Well, aside from the Eibach Prokits, the suspension is stock. It doesn't squat that bad, but I think with the Tokico's, it should launch much better.

backhalf is good, but i dont think its needed, i think with the right stall on a built auto with manual valvebody and proper setup of the irs simialar numbers would be possible at the same weight and power wit hthe irs. my rear suspension is now set up about perfect i think, just need a chance to launch it on the drag radials wit hthe 5 speed and then with the auto, i know the auto will be better but i dont know by how much, at least it "shouldnt" break under high power like the 5 speeds are known to do. btw, you know anyone with a th475 for cheap?

Best place to get TH trannies is at a Super Chevy or All chevy meet at the race track. I picked up a manual valvebody TH400 with a transbrake for $200 at All Chevy at Moroso. I bought a rebuild kit for it (although when I took it apart to rebuild it I found that it was in perfect order, but beter safe than sorry). I had a 4000 stall nitrous converter, and let me tell you, at launch, it felt like you were getting rearended by a Mack truck!!!

I don't have them anymore (I had 2 of them). All of my domestic stuff is gone. But I can help you though, they're very easy to rebuild. Not much to them.

well, according to the book i got theres tons of stuff that needs checked and measured and has to be exact. also, i read the th475 is the strongest unit, i figured if i could find one i could swap all the hardparts from that that are stronger into mine, or if my tailhousing fits that case just build the th475 then put my tailshaft on. know anyone with one for cheap that needs rebuilt? i can get the years adn letter codes it should have if ya want. they usually where in panel trucks, busses, etc..

Seriously, you don't need it. The TH400 is PLENTY strong enough, we have a TH400 backed GTO here pushing 1500whp on motor and he's spraying another 600hp into it......they're plenty strong. You'd just be killing yourself trying to find those rare TH475's.

mines a th375, same as 400 but 1 less clutch per clutch pack which im sure can be added in and then some more on top of it for more tq holding capacity. uses same kit as th400 from summit. oncei h vae the kit ill discuss it with you and see what other parts i need.

Armin, got the speedo, tach and odometer working yet?
Did you use the stock supra gauges or swap out?
Thanks for any info

The speedo works, but it's aoff a bit because I have the 4.10's in it now and the 1J came with 3.91, but I have a speedo gear for a 4.10 on the way. Still no tach though. I'm wondering if the MSD tach adapter would convert the 1J's tach signal into something the OEM tach from the MK2 could read. That's one of my next projects. And yeah, I'm using the stock MK2 gauges. We have the fuel, volts, speedo, and water temp gauges working. No tach and no oil pressure gauge yet....and I also have the aftermarket a/f gaage and the boost gauge.

Took the poopra to the track again last night. Temps were in the 40's. I was fricken freezing! But the car loved it. I started the night out at 14.5psi boost and 20psi in the rear tires. At the end of the night I had 16psi boost and 13psi in the rear tires. I got the best traction at 15psi in the tires. Here's how the night went.
