couldnt believe it. 12:00 at night on the freeway coming back from bowling in San Marcos in my friends 00 Trans Am WS6. we decided to see how well this car performs. so were on the freeway and its nearly empty and were doing around 140 :woot: and my friend looks over and says " Oh SHIT, COP" and i look nd hes on the feeder road and throws on his lights. we both thought he was pulling over the 18 wheeler he was behind. were still doing 140 and my buddy gets out of it to about 115-110 and we look at each other to make the decision to run or slow down. we take option 2. by now we had gone down a slight hill and i looked back and i could just barey see the cop. so we pull over and wait for the cop. he pulls my buddy out of the car and tells him thats the fastest hes ever clocked someone in 6 years :). but he adds that hes got 2 choices, take a fat ticket (140 in a 65 plus no front liscence plate) or he can go to jail. he takes the ticket. i couldnt believe he gave us a ticket first since we fvckin waited for him cuz we definately coulda ran plus that damn pig got him for no front plate, what a DICK. so needless to say my friends pretty shocked and will prolly have his car taken away and hell be in deep shit with his parents, plus the tickets gunna be around $460. it was the fastest i had ever gone in a car. just wondering what you guys wouldve done and if anyone knows the top speed of a crown vic state trooper car. just thought id entertain yopu guys with this lil story.

Speed slows you down....

Yep, the officer could of used discretion. If you guys would of kept that speed, no way he would of caught up but be carefull ! Nobody can outrun a "radio transmision". He could of contacted his buddy few blocks down the road ! Hehehe !
When I intercept vehicles and meet with honest drivers, they get good breaks. (lower the fine and don't lose demerit points) This way everybody is happy....
The ticket will make my boss happy and you drive away with enough money to pay for your toys on your Toyota....

yea i figured since we stopped he wouldve cut us a break, i guess he did by not taking us off to jail, but still. still curious as to what cruisers top out at, i read something that said 126. yes u can't outrun the talkies.

Cruisers wouldn't be able to keep up with a WS6, but the radio beats it everytime. You should be thankful your buddy didn't run as it could have ended up poorly for you had he wrecked...

Oh come on, your friend is young and was caught red-handed, and you are complaining that you got a ticket?? The cop did him a favor. Sorry dude but it's true. I'm still young, but when I was even younger, I drove like an idiot. I'm still thankful I didn't kill myself or anyone else. I got a few warnings, didn't scare me too much. Guess what slowed me down? Two tickets. A few swift kicks in the butt, and knowing that after one more I'd be practically uninsurable.

It's easy to rationalize what you're doing as safe, but if think about it sanely you realize it's just stupid. The freeway wasn't completely empty, you said there was an 18-wheeler behind you. 140 is FAST. Even if you trust yourself, (in which case you are most likely trapped in complete and utter self-delusion), you simply cannot trust anyone else out there on the road. Whose fault is it going to be if you're going 100+?

This guy near DC rear-ended a car, distracted as he was changing his radio. He wasn't going particularly fast. He was apologetic, it clearly tore him up inside. He was charged, and convicted, of manslaughter. He will most likely never get to vote for the rest of his life. Job prospects out of prison will be slim.

Sorry to get on your case, my buddies and I all thought the same way just a few years ago. Reading "top speed" and street racing threads just get to me. I feel a genuine sense of duty to say something.

Peace

Hey, Phil, buddy .... what area is your stomp'in ground? It's alway nice to have a name to drop when you've got Cherrys in your rear view. "Oh you must know Phil on the ????? Police Force. Great Guy that Phil. Oh, put my hands up and step out of the car ... dam. Guess you don't know Phil." :facesjump

(Flips to "Occupations" in General Chat ... Ottawa area ... VERY good to know. ;) I'm in there once a week.)

...around here, 140 in a 60 is a loss of license (for good reason).

You know, they make these things called "racetracks" for "racing". You dont get tickets, you dont have your insurance dropped (can you imagine the insurance costs for a kid on a ws6), your rents dont take your car away (hahaha), and when you wreck and die because you are a adolescent dipshit, you dont kill innocent bystanders (just yourselves).

Riddance, morons.

WERD!!!

Gots to "pay to play" homey. Quite frankly the ticket was a gift IMO. Im assuming that ticket says mandatory appearance? If so, the judge may still yank your buds license. If he can simply pay it and be done, thats a blessing, but if he's gotta go to court, he shld seriously consider hiring a lawyer.

well I hate to say it but 140 in a 65, you should have gone to jail! what state is it that any one going over 100 goes to jail? The few times I've got spotted going that fast I didn't let up till the cop was gone. I always thought that at that speed your gona pay big, so I better run. Only once did I get stoped at night flew by a cop on a big hiway goning about 200km/hr and just kept it floored till I got into some traffic then pulled in between some cars. We I got pulled over I asked why? she said she thought I was speeding but mybe it was the guy behind me. Then I said I saw a car go flyin by at 200+ it must be him your looking for. Cop said yes thats who I was looking for, ok have a nice night.

140 in a 65 and you're complaining that he "coulda" used discretion. Both of your asses would have been out on the car, kissing tarmac, with a knee on your neck while the WS6 gets impounded. I think he did use discretion... he gave you an option: Pay the fine or be someone's bitch.

why?

Oh, and about the Crown Vic question. I had an ex-police Crown Vic and I did 220km/h (136mph) in it with lots of room to spare. That doesnt meen the police officer is going to do that. He would just radio ahead and bust your asses later.

williamb82
12-05-2005, 03:32 PM
i dont beleive that for the simple fact that in pretty much every state, which it prolly is every state period, if your clocked over 100mph its a mandatory ticket to jail. so either he didnt clock you that fast even though you may have actually gotten to that speed, or he didnt clock you at all. also, if by some miracle it isnt law in your state to arrest you, the cop wouldnt have given a fine in that case most likely it would have been a mandatory court date.

this is no b/s story my friend. scanner is giving me trouble so i cant post pic try to later. cop gave us 2 choices, jail or hefty ticket. he chose ticket. and ive heard of people getting off of 100+ mph tickets b/c they stopped and waited for the cop. we stopped and i figured he would give us a warning, which he didnt. by the way the highway was empty and the 18 wheeler was on the feeder road in front of the cop, we had open road.

If this happened here in Cali tell you buddy to bring some lube with him when he goes to see the judge :bananas: . Last time I went to court there was this lady that was doing 112mph on a 65 (freeway) the judge took her license right then and there and told her "as of right now your license is suspended" :owned: :dumbass:

If you look at it your buddy was fucked either way. The cop knew that the judge will :bananas: once he goes to court for the ticket, same applies if he would of chosen jail time :bananas: :zzzzz:

In Ontario, we have "50 KM/h over, no set fine."

I got the riot act from an OPP in Sudbury for passing a gravel truck on my ZX-6 Sportbike on the outskirts of town (still 50KM/h zone ... but just.) Anyone who has ever ridden a motorcycle behind a gravel truck at hyway speeds knows why I passed it early. If the dust doesn't get you, the odd loose rock will. Ouch. Totally safe manouver too... just a bit aggressive. He didn't get the gun on me but ended up giving me 10KM/h over, with no points($110). No biggie, it was the only ticket I ever got on the bike in 3 years.

He did however go into "rant fest mode" on the side of the road. Bottom line, If you're tagged at 50 KM/h over a posted speed limit you:

a) loose your licence on the spot. (but car not impounded. You make arrangements for it's removal.)
b) are given a summons to court.

The judge gets to decied how long to suspend your licence AND what the final fine will be. Oh, and the minimum fine is $500 bucks.

In summery .... You -----> :bananas: <-----The Judge.

That was the way it worked when I got pulled over, instead of a wreckless driving I got a ticket for my motor vehicle inspection. I was honest with him and didn't try to lie my way out of it. I thought I was gonna ge4t the full deal, but really, who could I blame? "That stupid cop?" Bahahahaha, somebody slap me.

But the way I see it is if you're gonna drive like a knob, take the ticket and shut the f*** up. :gtfoslap:
Really, do you think he shouldn't have gotten a ticket? You already said there was other people on the road. When I screwed up there was nobody on the road (except the cop behind me) so I was not a danger to anybody else.
He had the choice, the lock up or the ticket, so he really gave it to himself. But in the end, your buddy is going to get reamed by the judge anyway. Which is good, because there is absolutly no excuse for going 140 in a 50 zone.

And you try to defend it, that's the best part. I say you should just stop talking because you're fighting a losing cause (or some saying like that).

In short, you screwed up, got busted, and now you don't want to admit fault. Get over yourself, you think because you pay taxes you shouldn't get a ticket?

In my opinion, kids parents ought to get fined heavy, like in the neighborhood of $20,000. Obviously if they can afford to give their teenager a late model, high performance sports car, pay the incredible insurance premiums for him to drive it, and are dumb enough to trust him (remember, no matter how good a kid he might otherwise be, a teenagers nature is to test the limits and see just how much he can get away with), a measley $460 isn't even a slap on the wrist. A 20 year old, 160hp, $1,500 celica supra is more than enough car for any teenager. Hopefully your friend learned his lesson, but if he's driving that car again anytime before he's 21, then his parents haven't learned a damned thing. <steps down off soapbox>

You guys are a trip, love the commentary...

Just the other day a friend of mine I was following had a similar situation.
I was in my Mk2 (Cherry) and I was following 2 mk3's, both heavily modified with 1jz turbo motors. As we pulled onto the freeway, they both decided to get on it. I was in the rear, and as I looked back to merge, I saw what looked like cop headlights a few cars back, but too far back for them to notice. I saw them both drop it to play a little cat and mouse and I thought, "oh shit, back off, back off!" I reached between my legs and tried to NEXTEL them but it was too late....the cop also dropped it", flew by me & went after them. Only a few seconds later the lights went on as I passed my 1 buddy on the shoulder... :nono:

To my amazement he called and said he got off scott free! :woot: I thought bs, but he told the cop (who clocked him @ over 99mph) :hsugh: that he was chasing the car in front of him to catch up who had his wallet. The cop bought the story, and even shook his hand as he sent him on his way, with nothing, no ticket, not even a warning. My frined who was driving showed him no id, no license, nothing.....I thought, "now that's quick thinking"......

I did get clocked going just under 140 in my Talon. 3AM, I was in Ohio headed back to Philly. To make matters worse, I had my blupra tag on the car. Fortunately, he wrote me for a few over the limit and sent me on my way. I drove 65 the rest of the way home. Lucky, lucky me. Tuers out he had a GSX, and believed my story.

Every kid should get the 3 cylinder firefly with one of the cylinders working intermitently, or a civic with blown piston rings.

It would save alot of lives.

For instance, my friend just lost his sister in a car accident the last week. Her obituary is in the paper today, and the funeral tomorrow. I think the age for driving and the young offender's act should switch ages myself.

Boardhead I think you're totaly missing the other guys points. I'm going to use all caps and double space my comment to make it crystal clear to you...

IT DOESN'T MATTER THAT THERE WERE NOT THAT MANY CARS ON THE ROAD AT

THAT TIME OR YOU ALL PASSED THEM IN THE OPEN YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN

ACTING LIKE COMPLETE TOTAL IDIOTS GOING THAT SPEED BECAUSE YOU STILL

ENDANGER YOURSELFS AS WELL AS ANYONE ELSE WHO COULD HAVE BEEN AROUND!

As someone else stated that the $400+ fine is a slap on the wrist I actully wish the cop would have taken the driver to jail and took his lincens so that fact your buddy is a total asshat for endangering you, anyone else on the road as well as himself..... That's just as bad as the ricers who weave in and out of traffic like F&F because they think it's cool.

Save the speed for the track and videogames

Of course we have, we all have! Thats why I blame his parents for givin him a car worth tens of thousands of dollars that would do 140 easily. They've lived long enough to have seen loved ones die from stupid stunts or had a few close calls themselves so they are supposed to know better. If your friend had to sack groceries or flip burgers for a whole year to earn the money to buy an old beater supra (or even civic, whatever) plus had to fix a dozen or more things himself to get it running, then he'd be a whole lot less likely to try anything dangerous because he would understand that if he wrecked it (nevermind his life - teenagers are invincible), that he would have to start all over again a whole nother year.

140 mph is about 225km/h.

I hate to say it ... but I've done that one time ... on a bike.

I would hate to have gone to jail for 30 seconds of bad judgement considering the rest of my driving record it dam near spotless. I'm 27 and never even lost a point while owning a ZX-6 and a Supra.

I also could not have paid a $20,000 fine either. It doesn't take a $20,000 car to do 140 mph. That would have bankrupped me and I wouldn't have been able to get money for University.

So basiclly, it would reuin my life, put me on welfare/minimum wage for 30 seconds of bad judgement. If I'd have killed somebody else in that time frame ... I'd deserve every bit, but there are already laws in place for those sort of things.

I think every single person on this board has wound out a car with a buddy in the pasenger seat ... it's not smart, we all do/have done it at least once, and we could have killed someone. Just because we didn't get caught (except Malloy... :facesjump ) doesn't make us any safer, or smarter ... just luckier.

I don't believe in "do as I say, not as I do" so I'll keep my negative comments to myself. (I will say ... don't whine about the cop ... your buddy shoud be in jail.)

Remember in the long run .... Darwin wins every time.

hey guys this is swboardheads friend that was driving the ws6... for you guys that think i got the car handed to me and we payed 20k you are wrong. i bought this car as totalled out P.O.S. for 5 grand. spent months fixing it, finally started to drive the car, drove it like a grandma for a while, and made 1 bad choice to run it up down the highway. it was not smart or safe to do. i dont drive 140 everywhere i go  . i usually just roll with the flow of traffic and havnt street raced anyone. yes i would take the car to the strip but the clutch is slipping and the rear end will break on the first hard lanch or 1-2 shift. f-body rear ends blow  . i dont think the cop was a dick and i am ready to face the concequences of my actions. you only live once, fuck it, i messed up, so be it, tom wasnt telling me to slow down because this isnt safe. we had a good time.
Oh thanks tom for not logging out when u came over to my house :nutkick: ... this is my first time on this board...

Well I applaud you for knowing what's right and wrong and ready to face the consequences. If you get stripped of your license, you might as well sign in under your own name...

Malloy: You got let off by OSP? :faint: It must have been after their major drug bust and the Pope was his way. You were lucky. Those troopers will chase you til the ends of the earth and back. Actually, they are pretty cool people. Had talks with a few of them. Level headed.. just the way you want an officer to be. Actually the more officers I've encountered both on and off the clock, the more considerate they seem to be. Must be my age. :hahano:

thats good to hear that you accept it, sounds like a nice car too.
on the other hand, tell your friend (owner of account) to quite posting thi9s kind of thing, then get insulted when people point out it was VERy illegal and that you got off easy from the cop.
he seems to think all cops are dicks or something. a dick is getting pulled over, no clock on your speed(i was speeding), having him threaten to haul me to jail, impound my car, etc. and having the cop give you careless driving and failure to stop, then have them drag you through court for 9 months. thats was a large lawyer bill, but damn i learned a lesson, watch for cops better when doing dumb shit :D

this post was just to let you guys know what happened in my life that night and obviously a good conversation maker. i wouldnt mind reading other peoples stories (which i do in the kill section). also i called him a dick b/c we couldve run but instead we pulled over and waited 4 him, and then he writes us up for no front LP. i figured since he was going to bank on the speeding ticket he wouldve told my uddy t put his plate on, which he had in the back seat anyways. usually its displayed in the passenger side windshield but not this day for some reason. as i said b4 thnx for all the replies and comments.
