Ok I know this is a really out there kinda question, but has anyone here been around a Ford Model T? My friend has one and we have no idea how to start it. We can get it to turn over and stuff and ive pulled out a spark plug and its not getting gas, despite a full tank and stuff, so if anyone here knows where to set the choke and throttle levers it would be fantastic.!!

if it hasnt been started in a while try pressurizing the fuel tank with a little compressed air. we had a 36 packard that wouldnt start until we got the fuel into the lines and such. as for settings, cant help ya sorry.

you might try checking the points in the distributer
If its anything like starting our '31 American LaFrance GMC Fire engine then maybe
Lets see start with a fully charged battery and maybe squirt some gas or ether into the carb
set timing to full retard
FULL choke
Dont touch the throttle until the motors starts to catch
AS soon as the motor starts to catch use the throttle and then cut back the choke a little
Good luck

First, lift up one side of hood and switch on gasoline, then retard the spark advance. This is the lever on the left hand side of steering column; push it upward. On right hand side of steering column is the auxillary lever. Pull this down about half way. Check in front of care to make sure there are no obstacles, such as a wall. When holding crank, fold thumb up to fingers so crank will slide freely if motor backfires, (prevents broken thumb). Crank by turning over once. Repeat as often as necessary. When motor starts, advance spark by pulling lever down until motor runs smoothly. Leap out of the way as car lunges forward; run and catch up to it and jump in.

check the fuel lines and filter that they arnt clogged.
and welcome to carborated car that use the engine to creat vaccum to pull the fuel.
KEEP CRANKING.
or you can purchase an electric started that you slip over the shaft for the crank. they are clutched so if they backfire nothing gets broken. safer than the crank too. saw an old guy once at a show that had one everyone thought it was ingeinous.

???????
Model T Ford has a fuel filter???? Sure about that?????
Gasoline back in the day wasn't exactly refined that perfectly. Thought those 15hp motors could gulp anything....

theres a guy about a block from me that has one. its like brand new, he drives it on occasion. ill try to go by there and ask if i can remember to, though i think he bought it that way so prolly wont be much help, anyhow, sounds liek the fuel filtr is clogged or the carb is about shot.

wow thanks guys, this is a lot of help, did i see that there was a switch in the engine bay to allow the gas in?!?!?! because that seems like a critical step that we missed. how could i unclog the fuel lines is there is indeed a block? compressed air seems like a good idea but this guy hasnt really got any good tools (i.e.- air compressor) so that may not work. thanks a lot though!
