View Full Version : Magnet+scanner=?

Do any of you know if a magnet will damage a computer scanner ? I want to scan this magnet but dont want to fubar my scanner... It's one of those sheet magnets that are about 1/16" thick.

Assuming it's nowhere near your CRT monitor or hard drive, I THINK it would okay. Not exactly sure though.

or....just use a camera, take a picture of it and then scan the picture. OR if u have a digital camera...well, im sure u can figure out the rest...

I've actually scanned several magnets at work. they were those really thin Fridge magnets w/the magnetic side up. our IT guy said it wouldn't harm anything but keep it away from the monitor and HD.

A magnet will not harm your scanner, especially not one as weak as one of those thin sheet magnets.

Here, I just scanned a hard drive magnet (much stronger than a sheet magnet) and the only issue I had was the scanning carriage initially carried the magnet with it, so I had to hold the magnet in place to avoid scratching the glass.

Then just so you can see nothing is broken, I scanned my halo cd cover afterwards.

if i put my finger on something to hold it down i would probably end up moving my finger and scratching everything up.
