Hi,

I have two days this weekend to pull off a quick rescue, otherwise I will have to leave it behind. (House flooded, leaving for TN for now).

I need to pull out the waterlogged 5M, and replace with the 6M-GTE. I don't have supporting mods for the turbo conversion, so I either have to:

(a) wing it (how can I keep boost to 5 psi or below?), or

(b) remove the turbo and manifold, as well as plug the oil pan and anything else

Can I reuse the exhaust manifold gasket?

I lost my notepad that had a step-by-step process for quick efficient engine swapping. It also had which tools I'd need (I have minimal tools right now).

Just pumping myself up for the marathon. Thoughts, tips, etc appreciated.

And yes, I will USE SEARCH if I get on a fast connection tonight :]

Regards,

Jimi

A.) Unplug the wastegate, should be a c-clip and the wastegate shaft that lets it just pull off.

*edit*

wait... do you have a downpipe? if you dont have the stuff necessary to do the intake or exhaust jazz, you'll need to pull the exh/mani and plug the pan indeed. which version of the chimpy kit do you have? single AN bung, or the flangey guy?

*edit2*

What's wrong with the current engine? I do some marine work (owning a few boats/jetskis wil do that) and fixing up a drowned engine is not always hard.

Have you emptied the cylinders as much as you can?
Have you drained the oil?
Pulled the distributor cap?
Does it crank over?
Do you get spark?
I always take some marvel mystery oil, lots of alcohol (the drinking kind too), a case of cheap-ass oil to flush with, and you should be able to make progress...

Need mo' info on the situation bro, goodluck! If I lived a little closer and would be in town this weekend, I'd offer to run down with and lend a hand/tools.

Sorry about the lack o' info...

I have no downpipe, or intake piping that'll bolt right up. So turbo is out for now.

The current engine had a massive leak (cam towers I think) and needed valve stem seals prior to Katrina menstruating. The starter won't engage, so I can't tell if it would crank. My feeling is that it'd be easier (Ha!) to swap in this known good engine than try to patch a sinking ship.

This is the 6M from Moorman, that I got earlier this year. I have no idea which bung. (Too many jokes all at once...) What's the best way to plug a bung hole?

Can I do this with a 3/8" metric socket and wrench set? Largest I have is 17mm I think. What else should I need?

Haha, well I know that engine from moorman will be good, I rode in that car shortly before it was pulled. I duno man... I want to say "yea", but as for it being easy... I duno. You have a cherry picker?

Instead of worrying about plugging the bunghole, nab a spare oil pan gasket and just swap it over when you yoink the 5m. Other than that... use the stocker exhaust currently on the car, and stuff of that nature. ...I hope your electronics are all OK, but you really wont know until you get down there.

Goodluck man, hopefully one of those "I timed myself, 32minutes to engine pulled" guys can jump in here and tell you exactly step by step what you'll need, I dont have that good of a memory or yoink the motors that often on my cars.

man good luck...if i were you i'd try and get the old one running the best you can, take an extra starter and battery....drain the oil and the cylinders of water and see if it starts or whats up, i mean if you take all the time to get the new engine in and it doesn't start because a relay has fried itself or fuses are blown then you maybe introuble...if you disconnected the battery before katrina it might have saved some...but goodluck and hope you get her out.

Never mind. It's a lost cause for now. Radiator neck cracked as I removed the hose. Steering rack is wasted. Time to face the reality of my situation... Katrina, you ho! I just don't have the time and money.

Now I have two parts cars that need to moved asap. Making an update to the parts for sale thread soon.
