7MGE and 7MGTE crank the same?

I have to replace the crank in my 7MGE (in an '85 Supra). Are the cranks the same in the 7MGTE and 7MGE?

Cranks are the same between the two. Howerver, 90+ 7m cranks are different than 86-89. The 90+ are fully counterweighted.

Does the fully counter-weighted one work any better than the older design? They must of had some reason to do it that way...

Will either crank fit in my older '87 7MGE?

I think they did it mainly for engine smoothness. The earlier one is lighter, so it has it's advantages too. I stuck with the earlier style for weight reasons. I just had the bottom end balanced.
I can't say for sure, but I don't see why you can't put the newer one in there. Everything else in the bottom end is the same.
