Please excuse the downtime and changes you may experience over the next few hours as Malloy and I are working on the site. We will be adding the new style soon along with a few other enhancements. A member gallery just like this one (http://gallery.trailvoy.com) will also be added soon.

Thanks,

YOU BROKE IT!!!!!
ahem...
Are you revamping the main page(cs.com)

Tommy
04-27-2006, 07:11 PM
What you see right now will eventually become the main page but we have to move all the content over into the new article CMS first. Until then, it will go back to the old homepage. :)

The forum has been upgraded from VB 3.0.7 to VB 3.5.4 which is more secure and offers more features for both the admins/mods, and members.

While it isn't pretty now, that type of front page design can be super cool. www.toyotagtturbo.com is similar.

Can't wait to see how the upgrade works out!

I just noticed that there is no 'loading' between pages. Seems interesting...
We are all just used to the old look, I cant even remember what the phpbb2 layout was like...
So this will be the same as the trailvoy site, with supras?
Not a big fan of the extras.... but as long as the forums work the same/better who cares.

When you're done will it still go to the regular site first (www.celicasupra.com)? I figure for people surfing the web and finding the site for the first time it's good to show all that content before they hit the forums and ask a million stupid questions that are answered on the site :) - Bill

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y208/MkIIMike/nav.jpg

Im going to take all of the old content (which is temporarily linked on the current main page) and add it into a new dynamic article software. Its a major pita job, which will take some time to get done...but it will be so worth it. That will standardize the existing information, and offer endless options going forward.

Also, members will be able to create articles that can be added to the FAQ, or other sections. All I need to do is proofread and click 'approve'

There are always pros and cons when making changes, but I think the pros will out weight the cons. All of the old 3.07 vb files and templates had to be overwritten and reverted as they do not work with vb 3.5.4. This is why we could not use the old style.

The major additions/upgrades are done and in place. Just an overview of what we did...

PHP and MySQL upgraded
Upgrade to the latest version of vBulletin (many changes vs the older 3.07 version, including many security fixes)
Installed and integrated the latest version of PhotoPost Pro Gallery
Installed a more efficient, database driven, content management system
Installed and integrated a database driven article CMS
Revamped the directory structure and URLs by adding sub-domains. (forums.celicasupra.com and gallery.celicasupra.com) All the old links that point to the old directory will work once I add the 301 redirect code.

Malloy is in charge of creating the new style for the site. I suggest a style/skin that doesn't increase page load times. The vBulletin default style is only temporary.

Input from the members is always beneficial. Let us know what color scheme you would like to see on celicasupra.com and we can work off of that.

The things that we are working on now...

Incorporate a new style
Add new site header with navigation
Move the old html content over to the new Content Management System
And a few other non-priority tweaks. :)

I added this convenient link to the posbit quick-links menu this morning. Be sure to add your photos to the Gallery! :)

looks good guys. itll be awesome when complete, although ive never set up a forum myself, i have a friend who does forums for anyone who pays him... he's good, but it still takes him time. i like the photo gallery too, hopefully thatll cut back on the red x's and "sorry photobucket bandwidth exceeded" pix, but i probably wont be using it much since i pay a butt load of money every month for my own hosting :)

Tommy
04-29-2006, 02:58 PM
I use the same gallery on my site and one of my mods put together a "how to" just for that.

I guess you can use it for now until Malloy or someone here makes one for CS.com

Just ignore step 1 and 2 as they are site specific.

The "Post Referrer Whitelist" error you received was the result of a vBulletin security feature. You must of been trying to login from the new CMS index page or gallery. I updated the list so that should be resolved. I tried to re-produce the error and did not get it.

i like the new stuff, and the new CMS would make things easier for upkeep (for you admins).

but there is one thing i wouldn't mind changed. the icon for "new posts" and "no new posts". i think there needs to be a more obvious difference. when i scroll through the list i want to be able to tell which forums have new posts with out actually looking at the icon. like the old one was a yellow supra, to a watermarked supra for no new posts.

i don't know, maybe its just me. i doubt you guys'll listen anyway. so i'll just have to get used to it.

Since the forums are now located in /forums rather than /vbforums, any link to another thread in the forums now results in a broken link.

Shouldn't be too hard to set up some kind of forwarding I would think..

anyway, nice work on the site guys.

edit:

as a temporary workaround, if you want to go to a link to a different thread somebody has put in their post, just copy the url then paste it in a different browser window, select the text and take out the "vb" from "vbforums"
i.e.

Do you understand why you can't? Instead of complaining about it...please accept the fact that if we let you guys do that....it creates a HUGE amount of garbage on the server that impacts site performance.

Hopefully you understand that this is the reason -- it has nothing to do with playing big brother, and trying to take away control from you. It's not that we WANT to edit your posts, you have an 8 hour window that you can make adjustments to what you post. That should be more than sufficient.

Guys,

Do you understand why you can't? Instead of complaining about it...please accept the fact that if we let you guys do that....it creates a HUGE amount of garbage on the server that impacts site performance.

Hopefully you understand that this is the reason -- it has nothing to do with playing big brother, and trying to take away control from you. It's not that we WANT to edit your posts, you have an 8 hour window that you can make adjustments to what you post. That should be more than sufficient.
im anal about my spelling in posts but sometimes dont notice the mistakes for days. i think somebody is going to be mad when i keep contacting them to fix my spelling :faint:

:edit: jeez, already misspelled 2 words in this post...

ya, 8 hours to be able to edit yourself.

I'll be the first to say, simple spelling mistakes are going to be low priority, you'de be better off not worrying about it. Those that abuse this will surely get on the shit-list ASAP....

The 301 redirect is now working :-)

Shouldn't be too hard to set up some kind of forwarding I would think..

909: I have no clue man. Is anyone having this problem consistently?

tanya: Ive been on the site all day with no issues. Around 7 it got laggy for a few mins, and its working OK. If its consistently slow, let me know.

It only happens once in a while, even at work.
