Lookin to turbo my 5mge. Now the rabid chimp has the cartech fuel pressure regulator for fuel enrichment. My question is can i keep my stock one and use a SAFC or some other piggyback system or would i still need the cartech unit? Gonna start out with 8 psi boost then later go for the full 400 HP lookin to be ahead of the game and not have to doubble up on the fuel control.

if you're going to do 400 HP on a 5M, better go with one of the standalones.

SDS, MS&S, Haltec, etc. and bigger injectors, MHG, 57-60 CT-26 (minimum, better to use one of the T4s or so), MKIV or Walbro fuel pump, 1:1 rising rate FPR, rebuilt motor w/ forged internals, etc

400HP on a stock electronic 5M is a sure recipe for disaster.

My advice would be save and buy all the parts you need, then install all at once. The above, depending on a few things, should be able to handle 500-600 HP if you decide to go higher than 400. It's that 20% saftey thing you should engineer into any mod you do.

good luck,
Mike

Was planning on the 60 trim CT26 and the rising rate FPR with the walbro pump and just getting additional injectors instead of bigger ones (wich is a better idea).

Are you going to use the AIC (injecting some where shortly after the TB I assume) or modify the intake manifold for 6 more injectors?

will

Just planning on adding injectors after the TB like 2 i believe is how you do it.
The six injectors is hott but way to expensive i think.

theres been an intake manifold on ebay for quite a while with 6 extra injector bungs.

You'll NEED timing management. You can dump in all the fuel you want, but at higher boost levels w/o retarding the timing you're going to run into detonation issues.

but then the cost of custom fuel rail controll and lines and regulator.
What do i use for timing managment?

I only know of the MSD Boost Timing Master, which allows dialing back X degrees of timing per X psi in an adjustable ratio. I never got mine installed because they don't provide wiring diagrams for our application.

I've got an aic with my injector bungs welded on the crossover pipe.

There's another option: Crane HI-6 (http://www.cranecams.com/?show=browseParts&lvl=5&prt=130&showAll=yes) with a Boost Retard Module (http://www.cranecams.com/?show=browseParts&lvl=4&prt=1979&action=partSpec&partNumber=6000-6425), plus a standard GM 2Bar MAP sensor

stand-a-lone.

...no 5m's doing 400rwhp without for more than 50 operating hours, and I'll put $100 cash on that...

As for fueling 250rwhp or so... A RRFPR (stock is NOT rising-rate regulator, but a fixed rate and WILL NOT WORK) matched with a Bosch "984" pump (search posts by me containing "984" for more info) will get you where you need to be. Unless your car is an 82 (vac adv distributor) you WILL want a boost-timing-retard unit, either a crane or MSD (argued worth-while, some have had trouble with it).

...or just F' it all and go standalone like you should.
