Help- I’ve installed an MSD digital6 plus ignition box along with the digital coil, tach adapter, 8.5 wires, cap, rotor & platinum 4 plugs on to an 83 Supra with a 5mge engine. According to the MSD tech line, I have installed & wired everything correctly. The problems I am having are:
1. The engine is idling at aprox 2500 rpm with the tach reading 5000rpm.
2. With no load on the engine, the car sounds great. Put a load on the engine & I have mis-fires at 2500 – 3500 rpm, & at higher revs I have major backfires thru the exhaust, when the throttle is backed off.
3. Can’t find the timing mark with a timing light
After tiring a few tricks on the tach adapter with the MSD tech over the phone, He stated that here might be a filter on the factory tach that might have to be by-passed! Does anyone have any ideas?
:duh:

From the sound of it... You might have a dead or faulty component.

We got MSD ignitor packs fitted on our GM V6 powered vehicle, it would work every now and again. To find out which was dead, we swaped it over with the orignial items to see what was failing, we got a replacement ignitor pack. From those symntoms... sounds like one of the items are faulty, which one... I don't know...

Good luck...

just by what some others have said the msd 6 dosn't work well with our cars. My friend had one too that we tryed to instal on his 84 and it never worked either, that was a few years ago and it was a used unit so we just thought it was busted.
