Hey Guys,
I stumbled across this on the cressida forums and thought i'd get some professional opinions from some knowledgable people here.
http://autospeed.drive.com.au/cms/A_2418/article.html
it uses 128 load points where you can adjust the voltage that the ECU sees from the AFM. It's the same idea as an SAFC but that only has 8 load points from what I've heard. The price is very appealing and seems like it would do a great job. perhaps the most interesting thing I was thinking...could this be sued as an MAF/MAP sensor converter that'd we'd just have to build our own maps for (using a proper wideband of course?). since the voltage can be modified at 128 given points...is there any reason why we can't just modify the voltages coming from a 3" GM MAF to look like our AFM voltages (inverted) with this product?
I was thinking tuning could be done in conjunction with a laptop utilizing the Innovate LC-1 wideband setup.
maybe i'm totally wrong (which is likely).
I'd love to har some feedback on this idea and the product in general.
Thanks, Steve

Why don't you buy it and use it? it's affordable... I'm no good with electrics but it seems a good idea.

Steve,
I'm still considering this.
My research tells me the voltage range it operates in is only good for the 82 AFM and the O2 sensor.
It's one of those things where if you have the time and drive to play with 'offsetting' signals to the ECU, there might be a better understanding of how the ecu reacts.

lol ohhh boy. as I do more research on the forum, I just found out that it's been posted up already a long time ago by StanS. Sorry about the repost guys.
I guess it is worth bringing up though.

front what I gathered from the previous thread... the AFM effects nothing with our ECUs in open loop which is when you are in WOT...so no tuning can be had there unless you modify the temp sensor or o2 sensor resistances. It seems if you want true adjustability with our cars you need to ditch the ECU. Swapping to MAF and getting it to work in some situation would reduce restriction which is great..but still offer no adjustability where it really counts it seems. The 7MGE works on the same principle.
this should work on the 82's since the ECU expect the proper 0-5 voltages and you could possibly modify a MAF's output to be within that range. It doesn't look like it will work with the inverted voltages other mk2 afm's use. Good idea to reduce restriction but offers no tuning when extensive mods such as compression, headwork and cams are considered (and it's necissary). It seems standalone with a wideband is the only REAL solution for us to reduce restriction AND tune the car under WOT conditions.
basically, in this thread, I've just restated a bunch of stuff that's already been covered and understood by other people in an entirely different thread and this thread is now useless. I was, however, able ot talk out my thought process in it.
mods, feel free to lock this thread or delete it. It truely is unnecissary.

$80 AUD for the device, $60 AUD for the controller for it, build it yourself and it's about $100 US and not much else you'd need to buy. I was comparing it pricewise to other interceptors and it is a great deal. However, megasquirt does not cost as much as everybody thinks and it is the best solution. interceptors are kind of useless in the sense of tuning for us.

You are assuming everyone has the electrical know-how to assemble one of these...
...dont, or atleast mention it.
if you can build and install one of these, you can build and install a megasquirt, with about 10000x the functionality.
