Guys,
I posted to get some input on a MKI that I was buying in DC and this turned into a friggin nightmare. You have to read the correspondence between myself and this moron - he's is the biggest asshole I have ever had to deal with - a total imbecile who claims to own a car dealership - West Auto Sale in Washington, DC.

You have to read it....

It just went up again on eBay today ( wonder why no-one completes the deal with this assclown)

Response to my inquiries through eBay

Under the body is very solid- you will not be disappointed with that at all. I don't think any rust repairs were ever done to this car, in my opinion. Car is overall VERY solid. Maybe a minor paint bubble starting in one or two places but very minor and isolated. I can have my tow guy take it to the train for you, but there will be a towing fee to do that. Charles and Ricardo

Nuts - I was out of town yesterday afternoon and missed the auction –let me know if the buyer doesn't come through - thanks.

What price are you willing to go for. Call me right away at # so I can let the winning bidder know I have another interested party. Chalres

Ricardo,That doesn't seem like the right thing to do.... I wouldn't want it done to me. I could only put together about $1200, but I still need to see some other pics if you can. You are in WA state or DC?

Charles, Can you get me the codes off the plate inside the engine bay
on the firewall? It will read something like this: BLMQEA 4ME MA46 101624 6A5YWA5 W50 F313 That tells me the make up of the car - thanks in advance. I'd also really appreciate some more pics if you can.

Phil- AS PREVIOUSLY STATED, I AM NOT SENDING YOU ANY MORE PICS. I AM NOT JUMPING THROUGH ANY HOOPS FOR YOU. THE CAR IS ALL ORIGINAL
AND VERY SOLID. IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME, THEN FINE- DON'T BUY
THE CAR. AT 1200.00 IT IS AN ABSOLUTE STEAL. TELL ME YES OR NO IF YOU WANT THE CAR. OTHERWISE, I WILL GLADLY RE-LIST IT AND SELL IT FOR LIKELY MORE MONEY. IF I DON'T GET A DEPOSIT FROM YOU TODAY, I WILL NOT SELL YOU THIS CAR AND BAN YOU FROM BIDDING WHEN I RE-LIST. CALL ME ONLY IF YOU ARE READY TO SEND DEPOSIT NOWTODAY) SO I CAN GIVE YOU THE WIRE TRANSFER INFO. NO HARD FEELINGS - I JUST DON'T WANT TO PLAY ANY GAMES. IF I DON'T HEAR FROM YOU BY 4:00 pm EASTERN TIME TODAY, I WILL ADD YOUR USER ID TO MY LIST OF BIDDERS BLOCKED FROM BIDDING ON MY ITEMS SINCERELY, CHARLES DEWEY AND RICARDO

Did I strike you as a dead beat when we spoke on the phone, or are you thinking of someone else? This kind of attitude is not what I call a positive precursor to doing business with you. I asked for something simple, and have not asked you for much. I haven't seen pics of the damage you indicated as the pics you posted don't show the pass door or the left rear corner. As a Supra collector, I would like to know what you have there before I commit to it. Quite frankly, $1200 is not money I am interested in just tossing around like a salad - I've been screwed MANY times on internet transactions, and they were all from the US, so I'm understandable cautious lately. My business day is 18hrs long, so I'd appreciate a little bit of flexibility considering that I'm willing to save you some added effort/cost relisting it and going through another possible NPB situation – does that not sound reasonable? Let's work together on this - thanks. Please forward the code or just jot it down - I'll call you this afternoon.

Sent: Wednesday, June 28, 2006 10:16 AM
Phil- AGAIN, The ad is truthful; my feedback is 100%, any dents
are minor and as described/photographed. AGAIN, car is VERY solid
and you won't be disappointed in any way. It is much easier for
me to re-list than jump through hoops for you. ONCE AGAIN, if I
don't receive a deposit from you TODAY, you will not EVER buy
this car. I am not trying to be rude, just FIRM. If you don't want to trust me, then I suggest you take your business elsewhere. AGAIN- I AM NOT GOING TO JUMP THROUGH ANY HOOPS FOR YOU. Charles

Date: Wed, 28 Jun 2006 10:34:00 -0400
Richard,I am not distrusting you, nor insulting you. I am a cautious
businessman having taken it in the ass too many times. Don't take
the enjoyment out of buying this car with this attitude towards me because I want to know what I'm buying. Business is business. I'll send the deposit once I get the banking info. I'll pay for storage until I can pick it up, and will bring the balance in cash as requested. If that works for you, fine. If not, fine.

Sent: Wednesday, June 28, 2006 10:35 AM
Phil, Here is the wire transfer info. you requested for purchase of the
Supra Celica: ###### Since it is an int'l. wire transfer, it may take a full day to clear the federal reserve, so please call or go to your bank and do this as soon as you receive this email. I expect it to clear by the end of business tomorrow. Please advise as to when you plan to pick up. Charles and Ricardo

Sent: Wednesday, June 28, 2006 10:41 AM
Phil, That is fine. Anything past next Wednesday is US$7.00 per day
storage. I don't care about the money for storage as much as I care about freeing up the storage spot for other cars. I need the spot so please try to pick up the car as soon as possible. Charles

Date: Wed, 28 Jun 2006 10:54:38 -0400
Charles, I will endeavor to get there as soon as humanly possible, but I would just appreciate it if you work with me as someone in this business, not some punk kid - I think we will relate to one another a lot better that way. I've been in the car business a mighty long time, and many lessons learned along the way. Neither of us has time to waste here, and time is money. I'll get to the bank this aft and see about getting a transfer made. What is the name of your business?

Sent: Wednesday, June 28, 2006 1:57 PM
My business is West Auto Sales, Washingoton, DC. The wire transfer is
to my name, NOT the business name. Let me know now if you are uncomfortable doing this because if you are, I have no problem not selling you this car.

Date: Wed, 28 Jun 2006 18:06:12 -0400
Ricardo,I contacted my bank and yours also, and they had already confirmed that the account is in your name. I have no issue that gives me cause for
further concern. I hope you understand my apprehension with any and all
transactions which give me no recourse or protection. Paypal has been
my main method, and even they are not foolproof. I will certainly add to your positive feedback as long as everything goes according to our arrangements. The transfer should be going through in the AM Is this info correct?

West Auto Sales
1 Kennedy St Nw
Washington, DC

Where can the car be picked up?
Thanks.

Sent: Wednesday, June 28, 2006 9:07 PM
Phil, Yes, The info. you stated is correct. The car is in storage 15 minutes south of DC in Lorton, Va. Address fro pick-up is: 8935 Telegraph Rd. Lorton, Va. 22079. That is where you will pick it up from. Charles

at this end. What address would you like it sent to and who made out to? Yourself or West Auto Sales?,

Pound sand, pal. It's my site. I'll decide what goes on it.

So, please avoid the urge to bid and save your own frustration in the meantime. I don't want the bid to go any higher than $100, since I told him that's what I'd do. Sure, it's petty, but I'm pretty pissed about this.
Thanks to all.

Isn't that illegal? I mean, the guy is admitting that he will transmit a malicious piece of software to your personal computer or work computer and possibly could have the intent on acquiring your personal information. I say report this conversation to the ebay authorities and then the local authorities as he threatened you.

Legal issues I hadn't even thought about. The insulting and degrading comments were blurring my vision. What the guy needs is his ass handed to him. Ebay won't have anything to do with it as I didn't bid on the car - I contacted him afterwards to see if the high bidder actually completed the sale so I could buy it outright from him.

Mike and I are working on a visit, but no violence is planned - yet.....

I never said anything about violence. From working in the programming industry, I can say that viruses and online threats are a big issue and ARE dealt with SERIOUSLY (at least in the state of washington). If you do end up with the car, screw him over like no other with all the legal issues. Consult a cheap lawyer or a friend who knows federal US internet threat laws and check everything you can nail this guy for from your e-mails.

Good luck man!

Hey, if you have copies of the e-mails that are verifiable by the e-mail client server (like hotmail or whatever) then they will come with a code that verifies they were indeed sent from him to you with said viral threat. If you have all that, he's dead.

that's definitely enough. I see a few IP addresses in there, but I don't know enough security/encryption/networking to decypher the whole thing for you. But I'm sure once the rest of the forum starts waking up and checks this out, someone will know how to use it. So long as you have those e-mails saved and they exist on a secure client server, then you are golden. Well, I'm off to bed (I work a night shift that gets done at 3am and its 6:30am now) but when I wake up later in the day I'll see what others are saying. Good luck.

I'd just stay far far away, its probably better that way. The whole circumstance of how he wanting to be paid sounds flakey at best. You can't turn him into ebay since you broke rules and offered to buy outside of ebay. The guy probably thinks he can get more on ebay and wanted to shake you off. Anybody who has 16 pages of legalese an a half paragraph about the item makes me look elsewhere.

Sorry this didn't work out Phil. Yeah, the seller in this case sounds like a royal dick & the documented threats of a virus was not a good idea on his part. Who knows.. For all we know, there "PROBABLY IS" something wrong with this car & this guy is trying to find a safe way to unload it & cover his ass!!!!

Thanks for informing the community about this seller. I DON'T CARE who some of these moronic sellers are, if it's something like this that has a following/community like ours, these sellers need to LEARN that we're paying attention to these auctions & the transaction results & how smoothly things went (or not) ARE BEING WATCHED!! They'll "slowly" slowly learn.

P.S. You'll still get that MKI added to your collection!!! Just have to find the right one!!!

Gut feeling ALSO says otherwise. Phil asked for a "simple request" for the information from the dataplate... And already this is going downhill.

Asking to see it in person.... Am betting the seller is going to have an issue with that also... Something about this seller really stinks.. I think Phil is doing the right thing & I honestly don't think he was asking for too much. PLUS he was asking if there was anyone nearby who could go look at this for him & nobody spoke up.

This is just me, but I think the $79 - $80 can be used elsewhere... Just my :twocents:

Actually, not altogether true. MWebber stepped up to the plate and offered to drive 3.5 hours to see and buy the car on my behalf since I realy wanted this car. Clown wants $2300 for it now though, so although I think the car may be well worth it, I'm not about to double the agreed price at this point.

It's not so much that I distrust this knob, but the fact that he was so incapable of making any concessions to complete the deal and then going off like a momma's boy since he wasn't getting his way. That's what steamed my nuts. Add to that the fact that a wire transfer leaves me not a pot to piss in if the fartknocker is a scam artist, and I'm reluctant to put any money in his pockets, no matter how big a chub the car gives me.
Now, I'm all about the payback, and that viral threat is not lightweight filler!

Almost everything has a reply stating how happy everyone is with what they bought from him and that they drove it so far to get home and had no problems. Here's a cut and paste to his latest response that the reason I can barely see the damage is because it's so minor.

No, I can barely see it because it's in the back of the car and you have a picture of the front of the car. That still isn't answering my question about the damage on the passenger side door. Don't tell me to zoom in again or another wise ass remark like that again. Tell me why you don't have a picture, or post a picture already. How are you gonna come right out and say that there is damage on the passenger side door and then not show the picture? Seeing as the price is so low on the car I'm really interested in it. I don't want to keep it though, Im gonna part it out and need good body pictures in order to know whether or not it's worth buying. The only way this is gonna happen is if I have good pictures of it. Don't you want to sell this thing? Post the pictures and get it over with already.

None of these bidders retracted their own bids - he did it probably after being asked more than one question by the same person, and in the process, screwed up a nice $1100 bid!
Do we know any of these people?

Dude, if you bid on this car and your bid is cancelled for no reason, report his auction for avoiding reserve fees:
"Reserve Fee Avoidance - Canceling bids and ending a listing early because the seller's desired price has not been met. Sellers who do not want to sell an item below a certain price should use the reserve price option or set their starting price at the minimum price they are willing to accept. Please see the complete Reserve Price Violations policy. " http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/listing-circumventing.html

I strongly urge anyone who has their bid retracted due to this to report to eBay. I already reported him for having a minimum deposit fee that exceeds the possible purchase price of the item, considering he has a $.01 opening bid and no-reserve (excessive fees). I looked through his feedback and the other private auction recently was on a toyota cressida.

Why not go to VA to the storage lot where the car is being held, cut the door open and hold the car hostage until he quits being an assraming uncle-fucker?

Just kidding of course =-p

I went through some shit to get my Mark II but nothing to the extent this guy is making it out to be. While it looks like a nice car, god only knows how old those pictures are(there's no digital time stamp on them). Last carfax record (listed above) was 2k3. Lots of stuff can happen to a car, even in storage, over 3 years.

While it appears to be a clean ride, I wouldn't deal with this guy any further. You're comming down from Canada which is a minium of like 12hour drive(to the DC North VA area) or a few hour flight. If you fly, you have to rent a truck and dolley(or full car trailer thing) then go deal with this dickhead in person.

Screw that.... poor slug in the hands of an imbisule

Are they copyrighted? I don't even know if this car exists. Ebay doesn't give a rat's ass what I do on my website, so blow that out your ass.

They however care about the way you have been conducting yourself regarding removal of bids, and threats toward me in the form of a virus. That is international criminal intent. You are pushing all the wrong buttons pal. You picked the wrong person to screw around - how's the auction going by the way? I've already been contacted by the last high bidder about your conduct, so don't be surprised if your eBay feedback takes a dive into the crapper real soon.

Are you some punk kid or a man? Owning a business doesn't make you anything more than what you are - an impatient, unaccommodating, demanding and intolerant prick. You act and talk like a paranoid adolescent All you had to do was extend me a little common courtesy and we would have already completed this transaction.

I am very interested in this old Toy, but your pix don't show the damage you describe above. Wrong angles. While you're at it, could you take a pic of the data plate on the firewall - I am curious about the differential and the tranny - the codes on the plate will tell me more about what you got there.

Then I guess you just lost your sale. Good luck selling the car, even though I doubt you'll ever sell it. Not with an attitude like this. It's no wonder this is the third time you've had to put the car up for auction. You're trying to get people to part with there money and you wont even show them what they're buying. What kind of seller is that? It's not like you're selling the car for $100.00 or something like that. People are gonna want to see what they're bidding on. Good luck!

He deserves it so much and I love Phils last e-mail to him (except for the blocking part, you shouldn't block his e-mail addy, cuz this is entertainment). We're not tampering with the auction, those people still have a choice to bid and we're not changing that right. HE is however, tampering with the auction by cancelling bids to meet his own personal, undeclared reserve. The only person at fault is him.

Shill Bidding is bidding that artificially increases an item’s price or apparent desirability, or bidding by individuals with a level of access to the seller’s item information not available to the general Community. Shill Bidding is prohibited on eBay.

Because family members, roommates and employees of sellers have a level of access to item information which is not available to the general Community, they are not permitted to bid on items offered by the seller – even if their sole intent is to purchase the item. Family members, roommates or employees may purchase items from a seller without violating this policy simply by using purchase options – such as Buy It Now – which do not involve bidding.

eBay strongly encourages sellers with employees to ensure that their employees are aware of this policy and the possible consequences of violation.

Violations of this policy may result in a range of actions, including:

Listing cancellation

Limits on account privileges

Account suspension

Forfeit of eBay fees on cancelled listings

Loss of PowerSeller status

Referral to Law Enforcement

Spend a few minutes taking eBay's tutorial on Shill bidding.

If you believe that another member is artificially raising the price or desirability of an item by shill bidding please report it to eBay. Please be sure to provide the user IDs and the item numbers in question.

This is false. The images are copyright the originator as soon as they are produced. Unfortunately, the Asswipo has copyright. Therefore, a reasonable request to remove images should be honoured. However, if the images are being used for an educational purpose, or if the images are demonstrative of his product or services, then fuck him, he can deal with section 17 of the U.S. copyright act. Also, he freely posted the images on the internet in a public venue such as eBay without any restrictions, so he obviously didn't protect his copyright there.

Mone82MKII: post page 5, #47, explains it is against eBay policy to cancel bids to avoid having a reserve auction (and reserve auction fees). In fact, you can report him for this too.

Ok, glad to have the info. I will call you before the end of the night and make arrangements to pick the car up on Sunday most likely. I hope this works for you. You are welcome to call me at XXX-XXX and I will answer if I am home. BEFORE I send any monies to you I will require that you fax a copy of the front and back of the title for the car and bill of sale indicating that you have sold me the car. The bill of sale must include the VIN number, the sale price of the car, the $150 fee that you are charging me, as well as the name, address, and phone number of your dealership. The bill of sale also must include my name and address. You can fax to me anytime at . I look forward to receiving a bill of sale and a copy of the front and back of the title for the car and I also look forward to sending your money and making arrangements to pick the car up. I hope you can work with me some (as far as picking the car up from you) once the car is paid in full (as I work most every day and have to arrange a flight). Thanks! Robert Moore

Kind Sir- You are seriously late in sending the deposit. The deposit was due within 24 hours of the end of the auction. The vehicle was to be picked up within 72 hours of the end of the auction, which is tomorrow might at the latest, NOT SUNDAY. You are in violation of my terms of sale and are not making things easy on me. Did you not bother to read my terms of sale? It is CLEARLY stated that if you are uncomfortable with ANYTHING, you were not to bid on this car. Clearly, you are not following my terms of sale. If you were uncomfortable about ANYTHING, which includes who I am or what the title looks like, that was to be settled BEFORE you bid. I am NOT going to jump through any hoops for you to validate to you who I am or anything else for that matter. I am insulted that you would bring up these issues now; you should have you brought them up before you bid. You are a non-trusting person who in my opinion really doesn't want this car. If you do not want this car, why don't you send me my eBay expenses (200.00) and we will split ways. If you are man enough to leave your phone # or call me, I will gladly discuss this with you. But CLEARLY you have not bothered to call since winning the bid despite me asking you to call so I don't have much faith you wil do that. I am not obligated to even sell you the car at this point since you are in serious violation of my terms of sale. Charles and Ricardo

From: "Robert Moore"

Hi Charles (and Ricardo). I am having trouble understanding why it is that you are being so rude! I will have you know that I DO want a supra like his one (and have since I was a kid), otherwise I would not have bid on yours and obligated myself! I did NOT, however give up MY rights to be comfortable with releasing MY money to a stranger (when I placed a bid and won the auction for your car). You mentioned that if I were man enough to leave a phone number, that you would gladly call. You HAVE a PHONE number AND a FAX number and have had them since I got home from work (see below), yet you HAVEN'T called. I WAS man enough to leave the number and YOU HAVE PROVEN THAT YOUR WORD IS NO GOOD (you had the number, didn't bother to call, didn't even realize that you DID have the number). SEE BELOW!! (e mail that you responded to) Based on your terms and on MY terms, I was willing to buy this car and WOULD have met your 72 hr time restriction for payment in full had you sent the credentials that I require. Furthermore, I was willing to fly into DC on a moment's notice and get behind the wheel of a car that I know nothing about and drive it over 600 miles, depending on it to get me home safely BASED ON YOUR WORD. When it comes to spending MY money, it is of NO CONCERN to me whether you feel like it is made easy on you (or not). I DON'T EVEN KNOW YOU! As far as your 72 hr thing, had YOU done what I asked (and had I paid you in full) this would have been sufficient. The car carrier (name of company) could have picked the car up sometime next week, Tues - Fri. Since YOU say in your auction that you will work with a car carrier of my choice (provided that the car was paid for in full within 72 hours), your comment about having to pick this car up before tomorrow night is really not an issue here. Unless YOUR WORD is, once again NO GOOD. What is the difference in waiting for a car carrier until next week or having me pick it up in person next week as long as the bill is paid in full? It does not say in your auction that you are not willing to prove who you are, nor does it say that you are not willing to provide the name of your dealership. It doesn't say that you won't fax a bill of sale to the buyer before they release their money. YOU say that you are a licensed dealer and have been for 10 years, Why not just prove it (if it's TRUE)? The car is pictured in front of a MINI WAREHOUSE (not a used car dealership). The address that you gave me (1801 Preston Drive) is a RESIDENCE sir, it's NOT A CAR LOT. I saw it for myself on a satellite mapping system. Why is it that you think I have to take the word of a stranger? I DON'T!! Since you have been in the car business for over 10 years, I am sure that you know all about insurance companies and their requirements. MY insurance company told me that I need from you (in my possession) a copy of the title and a bill of sale (signed by the seller) in order to insure the car, which is yet another requirement of MINE. I require that MY car be insured the very minute that I pay for it. PERIOD! You have called me a non trusting person. I don't have to trust you sir (without credentials), I don't even know you! I would question your HONESTY and INTEGRITY since you have a serious problem with my requirements. It is real simple to fax both sides of a title and to type up a bill of sale. It takes about 15 minutes, start to finish. After all, YOU WANT $1175.00 of MY MONEY. You say that you won't jump through hoops, DON'T! You say that you are not obligated to sell me this car, then DON'T! You say that you want $200.00 from me to forget this deal. YOU CAN FORGET IT! IF I DON'T GET A CAR, YOU WON'T GET ONE PENNY! PERIOD! You don't need to worry about my faith, I can assure you that I won't be calling you. Who would (call you), with the tone of this letter and with your lack of willingness to prove yourself? WHAT HAVE YOU GOT TO HIDE? You already have my name and address. We aren't at 72 hours yet, we still have until tomorrow night. I really DID want this car.. You can fax to me anytime. You could also get in the car and drive it to my house in Atlanta. I'll add $300 for your trouble (making the total $1475.00) if you drive the car to my door. I will NOT send you ANY money AT ALL until you provide me with what I REQUIRE (for obvious reasons). I WILL NOT KISS YOUR ASS TO MAKE THIS DEAL HAPPEN AND I WILL NOT TOLERATE ANY MORE OF YOUR RUDENESS AT ALL (if we are going to continue to communicate). You have my permission to send this correspondence to e bay if you would like, it will save me some trouble. Please ask e bay to contact me immediately when you do. that's definitely enough. Good luck.

Mone82MkII - are you interested in taking that to the next level, or instructing me on how to do so - I assume you know your way around in these matters....

I just emailed Robert with copies of my emails - told him to grab a beer and pop some corn.....

Scott - it's a matter of principal at this point. I for one am sick of these kinds of people giving average Joe's a drag through the shit. He is also giving the world a very bad impression of the American people - are you going to sit still for that? Hell, I'm a Canuck, but I've met so many great guys/gals in the States - this asshat is not indicative of that. He needs a lesson taught him.

I'm not much of a network admin. n fact, all I really know is that it IS possible to track this guy down. I know that you can simply take copies of your e-mails and that Robert guy's emails to the local authorities and they will deal with it.

Remember- what comes around goes around! You will get yours one day, trust me.

and

You know you screwed with me and you will get yours one day...trust me....

The ellipses say it all. This guy has an address of Robert and sounds like he's into shady business. Just watch the news the next couple of days. I wouldn't be too surprised if this guy (Charles and Ricardo) go SNAFU. Those last two threats he made to Robert are definately enough to take to the police.

And my own little theory, this car is stolen. That's why he won't give us the pictures of the VIN. The VIN on ebay might be fake, and he could be selling a hot car.

Take your emails and robert's to the police where you live and instruct Robert to do the same where he lives (more important for Robert though, he has more personal risk at stake here).

Keep me posted, but I don't know enough about e-mail stuff to nail this guy myself. Let the police handle it. Seriously.

Good work though.

Hell, if the BBB hasn't heard of his biz then he might just be slinging them from his house and might not have a dealer's licence. In that case you could nail him big time for not having a licence and if he's not claiming that income on his W2 then you could bag him for Tax Evasion and let the IRS pipe clean his turd shoot. I'll post data plate info, pics, etc etc... after I get back from South Carolina to pick up my sick kiddo. We're leaving in a hour and I just got home..... Once we get back, It'll be WAY TOO soon to see the inside of a car.... and I'm gonna win that damn sleep-a-thon too.

edit: VIN cleared NCIC and came back not stolen, I verified the VIN on the car with the one listed on EBay. I can't divulge muh info on this, but the boys in blue were close at hand if anything untoward were to happen as well.

And for all those wondering..... He's an Internet Bully who was too chicken shit to show up himself, I'm sure he was just WAY too busy with some other deal, but sent Recardo to close the deal, He seems a pretty cool guy though.

I did give Recardo a msg to give to Charles, paraphrased: It would be in his best interest to stay away from Supras since we don't take kindly to people being pricks, If he would give people the common courtacy of saying 'the car's 40 minutes away from here, I can get them for you next time I go there' or something similar instead of 'NO! blah blah my pussy hurt get me a dousche to wash it out'.... uggg.... anyway... that's the short story.... I was just informed we're leaving earlier than 6AM... just smack me and call me Susan!

Well, because I'm a rub salt in it kind of guy, I got the ball rolling it that direction a few days ago already, and sent the money shot just now....
Me
Hi - I looked at this listing last night and there were a bunch of bids, but today, there are none? What has happened? I am very interested in the car, but this seems odd - I have money in hand and pay as soon as I win - thanks.

Him
I cancelled bids to change the auction to a private auction b/c there is someone out there emailing people trying to get them to not buy it. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to change it to private auction so I cancelled the bids for nothing. Click on the bid # and you can read the reasons for cancellation. Charles

Me
Why would someone be trying to stop others from bidding? Well, anyway, I would like to buy it as a wedding anniversary gift for my parents who bought one new and this one is even the same color. They had to sell it when money was tight - it broke their hearts! Problem is I need to pick it up in a few days in order to give it to them on July 8th. Can you give me the magic number that cash in your hand will make the sale?

Him
I dont sell outside of eBay unless you make the right offer and send deposit immediately.

Me
Well, what is the right offer? I'm a motivated buyer.....

Him
make an offer but do it quick b/c I have another one on the table as we speak.

Me
Well, I've thought long and hard about this, discussed it with the family, and considering the timeline and how badly we want to get it for our parents anniversary, we took up a collection. The most we could muster up is $3500 for the car. I hope that is a reasonable offer - if not, we might be able to get a little bit more, but not much. The resale value on these cars is not that high, but it literally looks identical to the one they had - it might even be the same car! I can't find out without spilling the beans...
Please tell me that it's still available!!! I would like to come tomorrow afternoon to pick it up if that's OK.
Anxiously awaiting your response...

Yup, that's the devious sort of prick that I am. Don't you just love it?

Now, since Mike has sort of alluded to the fact that a new MKI is sitting in VA right now, so far there seems to be a happy ending. He went WAY beyond the call of even friendship and brokered the deal with this assmunch on my behalf! I haven't heard any more details other than that, but I'm anxious to hear how nice it is (or isn't) and as soon as we get all the paperwork settled away, I'm goin to reach out to our numb nuts pal Charles (he even mispelled his name in one of my emails - Chalres) give him the single digit salute and tell him about how he had just been had. I'm sure we'll be smiling when all is said and done.
Now, I have to plan my roadtrip down there to bring it home!

Mike, I can't begin to thank you for all the effort that you put into this, and you'll be repaid in spades, to be sure! I really didn't think you were serious when you offered to do this! As soon as we get the paperwork finalized so dicksquash doesn't go and pull a fast one - we all know he's capable of this now - I'll be giving him a call on the phone and telling him to take a long, hard suck on my arss!

Actually you'll probably be doing the guy a favor if you don't pay on it. If he ended the auction early he'd lose the auction money. If he lets it go thru he can file a non-paying bidder and re-list it free (and just list another car).

07-06-2006, 08:16 PM
I doubt there would be many reprocussions is you get an e-mail from somebody saying that they bought the car from the guy personally and he is trying to commit fraud. Especially if the guy can send you a copy of the title with the date on it showing that he sold the car before the auction was over. That would be something to alert e-bay to before the very end of the auction, or just after it's over.

I don't know what's going on here. I won this auction and I was getting ready to send the deposit when I get this e-mail from a guy who says he bought the car a week earlier and has the title to prove it. I don't want to send the money because the seller doesn't have the car anymore and is trying to rip me off..... Can you tear him a new asshole for me?

this is so great to see guys. Never forget this, EVER. The threats, the backlashing, and being a general a-hole are all ways that this guy will go down in history in the Supra community.

On a side-note, can he possibly change the VIN listed mid-sale? If he had a second MkI (very unlikely) that looked very similar, and if he can change the VIN in the listing, then he could technically claim that its still a legitimate auction. I know very little about ebay, so someone prove me wrong pls.

Hey, now that is a dirty trick outbidding me!!! Get a load of this, I e-mailed dip shit through e-bay, there was a response but no detail in the body. Hummm, wonders if he has nothing to talk about? Who know's maybe he is desperately trying to find an other similar Supra? Hehehe. This is what I wrote to him;
The car look's great! It would be a perfect mate to the one I currently have (look sisters):-). My wife will love the automatic tranny!

Maybe in an other e-mail to him I could mention that I would be interested in selling mine for a certain price! ~grinns mischievously~ Perhaps this thread will continue on for a bit longer! Well off to rebid for a virtual Supra. ;-)

Hello:
There was a response to my e-mail but no detail in the body. I am confused, I was outbid and tried to place an other bid(s) but I was blocked from bidding. I have read your outlines but I truely don't know why, I have money and am willing to continue to bit because I know these cars as for I have had one since my teens and now that our kids are grown, my wife and I would love to have two Supra's because of the great sentimental value for us. Do you not want to sell this car? Please re-consider me in this bidding.
Sincerely,
Josh.

did you mention that you know, for a fact, that car has already been sold also?

CJSREDPRA
07-07-2006, 02:43 AM
Mike,

The dataplate pretty much confirmed what I saw in the pics in the sellers "first" eBay auction. The car is basically IDENTICAL to the Silver Slug, only with no Sunroof. The big surprise was the sequential build numbers in the VIN, the numbers were about 800+ higher than mine. The build plate pretty much confirmed that also with the October 80 build date. The Slug was built in September.

This gets even funnier!!!

Edit: Just looked at picture #2. Just discovered a interesting little "clue" (Phil is going to like this).. This car still has the original paint!! How do I know this?? Look in the little gap where the red pinstriping ends & where the thick black "stripe" crosses. Right where the red stripes end, I can see what appears to be orange paint after this???? Which means someone else laid on all of this pinstripe tape above the original factory pinstripe, which on a 81 Silver Metallic MKI "should" be Orange paint!!! Possible that Mike can take a real close look at this???? On the MKI's the factory pinstripe was painted on & should be underneath the clearcoat.

Hrmmm...... Looking at pictures as I go along... #18. You're missing the black knob for the OD On/Off switch, that is next to the dashboard light rheostat. It's a Push/Pull setup. If you use the knob as it is "now" try not to cut yourself!!!!

#22.... DAMIT!!! You're drivers seat bottom is in perfect shape!!! Mine looks like walking crap, due to dryrot damage.

#26: Looks fairly normal!!! MKI rear side panels NEVER look perfect, they all have that "peeling/sagging" look to them.

#30: Other than the door marker lens needs replacing, does the bulb still work??? (I don't think I have a spare lens).

#31: Same question, first time I've seen both of them cracked like that... Interesting....

#34: That midget spare looks familiar!!!! :)

#38 - #39: No 3-piece cargo cover??

#40: Based on the screws in those 4 oddball locations, it looks like this hatch previously had the Shadow hatch louvers in the past...

Other than the very minor dings, you did VERY well Phil & Mike!!!! Just royally SUCKS that the seller was a major dickshit....

HOT DAMN!

I would NEVER find a MKI in that shape up here, certainly not for that price! THANK YOU MKIE!
She-it, that car is friggin clean! The hood has a crease - no worries. I have brand new OEM unit that I got on eBay a few years ago for this very moment! A little crease in the door, a few spots of rust, no biggie, missing a knob and a lens, some broken glass guide rubber, new armrest needed..... and I have an 84 5 speed setup ready to go into it as soon as it arrives. I haven't been this excited about a Supra since my very first one (which I'm not going to sell, ever, so don't even ask me....)

Now, the story gets better. I had an email from a fellow in Cali who has read the story and tells me this:
"Hi,
I read the e-mail crap you went through with trying to buy a MKI. I have an '80 hardtop with a 5-speed and only 91,000 miles. I'm in California, so is the car. And I will be happy to take $900. Great deal, no rust or body damage, plus it runs as good as any car with under 100,000 should. It's not perfect yet, but that's just because I don't like to sell a car before it's ready. This one is close enough, to sell for this cheap. Tell me if you know of someone who is looking for a straight car. I'm sorry I don't do alot of things, sooner. I was going to ask where you are from, but North is far enough & understood. I'll get some pix ready for you. So you will know and you won't have to say it later, again. I say it now;
I have three '79 MKIs and the '80 hardtop that I drive daily. I also had to strip an '81 to get rid of it. (bent frame) One of the '79's is stripped down to just the running gear left. (could be restored!) One is a black 5-speed that is out of the system and I have no title (at this time). One is white w/ blue int. w/ automatic needs a head gasket. I just bought it. I've got extra three motors and parts parts parts and I'm told they have to be slimed down to about half the herd. I've got a couple good restorable frames I would be willing to give up for free if it would save them from the scrap pile. One is a '82 MKII, stripped. If this is something you can find better use for, you tell them all and let me know. Thanks and I'll send some pixs of the other later."
Curtis Dunn
California (east of Oakland)

I'm sure someone knows Curtis with all this MKI hardware sitting about?
I just wish I wasn't 40hrs drive away!
Let's help Curtis to save the Supras (my old motto) Anyone game for these parts/cars?

The auction description pretty much sums up this part of the complaint.

Furthermore, I purchased the car this past monday (It was For Sale locally) and the seller has yet to cancel the auction. I also have good reason to believe the current high bidder is a friend or business associate shill bidding so the seller can keep his 100% feedback rating. The Seller has blocked several people from bidding on the car to keep 'beautifulcarlover' as the high bidder. As I stated, I bought this car last Monday and am willing to send a copy of the new title and bill of sale(from the Seller) as proof of ownership. I also have many pictures of the car at www.masupras.com/mki/ I worry about this Seller's business practices and knowing what I do now about him, I'm willing to bet he, or his friend/associate has been shill bidding on his items before. I find this Seller to be very distasteful and should be removed and banned from Ebay!

Chrisfrom1986

no no no... actually the opposite. if his friend wins the auction, he has to pay fees for "selling" the car to his friend. because i doubt he would report his friend for not paying right? so we need to drive up the winning bid price as far as we can so this asshat has to pay the seller fees.

Its a car listing there's a flat final value fee. If he's doing a scam the only one he can do is too sell it to a friend that can afford a non-payment strike. This way he gets the final fee refunded and can relist the car free (and then edit it for another vehicle).

The car drives very well, stops well, the AC works, the interior is 9/10, the body is almost rust free, the paint is so-so, but for the time and effort, it was worth every penny and then some. I'm going to have my detailer and a dent guy go over it o be ready for TSC2006 in a few weeks, slap a set of P-type rims on it (thanks SOLO1) and do some suspension upgrades shortly, but otherwise it will remain stock and as is for a while until I can justify a proper restoration, complete strip out and strip down, repaint and detailing. This is truly a gem in my collection! Thanks again to Mike for going all out in the acquisition and getting it up to PA for me. I'm going outside now to take it off the trailer and romp around the county in it!

It looked good when Mike swung through town on the way home. Glad you like it. Mike was considering not giving it up. We had some nice plans in the works 'cause the ricers were out in force that night, lol.

HAR HA!!!!!!

It's been done already!!!!

Bug Keith Hart & see if he still has his original picture of "this".

The pictures were to be used for the car designs on the SILV T-Shirts from about 3 years ago. The picture was my 81 Silver Slug, Dan Oxier's White 85, Rob Fenner's White 89T & Chris Wick's 94TT. Nobody in the PacNW, much less in the Seattle area, has a White MKI that we could have borrowed, thus my Silver Slug got pressed into duty.

It seems like I'm getting some kind of reputation as a free spirited driver, is that possible?
Anyway, I'm FINALLY home. Customs tried to crawl up my blast port and ream more money out of me, but I told them to pound. Can't wait to start primping the car for the TSC2006 meet next wknd, but there is a lot that needs doing. I'm thinking about another MKI now which is more what I was looking for, so this one may be for sale shortly, can you believe that? It will be like Steve Austin however - better, stronger, faster, but for way less than 6 mil. I may change my mind, but I like to say that my mind is never made up on anything......

I'm diggin into the car getting it ready for the TSC2006 meet this wknd, and I'm astonished at the condition of this 25year old car! The brakes look new, probably recently replaced, but they got a sandblasting and repainting today, the P-type rims are ready to go - thanks again to Solo Joe - and the interior is mostly out for detailing and a general going over. This is a beautiful car, and I'm proud to have it in my stable! I still need to find a few bits to finish it off, and have posted for those - please let me know what you have to spare. See you this wknd!

Last I knew, there is a nice '80 Supra (MK1) in Ococee, FL. Black 5-spd, supposedly rust-free. Looks like a hardtop. Brown leather interior. $950.
I have some pics and can post if interested. Not my car. Not my project.
Just found it online.

.....but I already have this one, and no room for any others at present. I think I posted that one already in another thread - perhaps you meant to put this there?
