I installed a chat interface late last night...you probably notice this at the top of your screen just below the CS.com banner. It's very basic, in hope that something simple can be easily used by all forum members. Type in any name you want, and click Live Chat - you do not have to be logged onto the forum to use the chat room either.
_______

However, there is an AOL/Compuserve issue - [disclaimer]:
If you are using AOL/Compuserve, please minimize (don't close) your connection window and open either Internet Explorer or Netscape by itself. Yes, you can actually use a regular browser while you're connected to the internet with AOL or Compuserve.

AOL/Compuserve is not friendly the chat room software, since it uses session IDs (similar to how this forum works to identify you). While I was able to modify the forum to allow compatibility, the chat interface cannot be altered.

AOL / Compuserve historically isn't friendly with most everything on Earth, so this comes as no big surprise. However, AOL installation discs happen to make nice drink coasters.
_______

Session Time Out - [disclaimer]:
While in chat, if you sit there long enough and say nothing, you may experience a notice that says "session timed out" - this means, due to inactivity, your connection has been severed. Simply log back into chat from the forum and you're ready to go.

Hope this helps!

Thanks guys...glad you like it so far. I think it will serve the purpose.

Dzone: yeah, I was in there when you were there. It was nice getting to talk "real time" with you

Karaki: heh...thanks bro - just trying to keep you guys happy

Dogstar: unfortunately it's not that "advanced" - you just have to keep tabs on the room. I just resize the window a little smaller (like 1/3 screen) and minimize it

I just signed on in chat as "Onedic" and it worked fine. You must have signed on, then closed it and attempted to go back into the room right away. If you do that, you'll get a "name is already in use" message, or something like that.

This is to keep multiple people from using the same user name, and the session ID releases the name a little while after you actually leave the room.

Wait a minute and then try it again. Should work just fine. Or...try using "MoreThanOneDic" and see if that works.

Dave,

What browser are you using? AOL and compuserve won't talk with the chat room. Are you using Internet Explorer or Netscape? If I forget and use AOL it does what you are discribing.

Somehow your internet connection or Mozilla is not happy with the chat room...my guess is it has something to do with how it uses session ID to identify you while you're in chat.

Just for the hell of it, try going in using Internet Explorer 6.0 or get Netscape 7.1: http://channels.netscape.com/ns/browsers/download.jsp
