Every now and then when i start my 84 5M it won' fire normally. It studders and stammers and slowly manages to idle normally. Also sometimes my brake pedal won't depress normally. Feels like a caliper piston is getting hung up somehow. Any ideas would helpful.

Cant help you on the first one. My car used to do it to (85 5mge) but it cleard itself up.
my brake pedal won't depress normallyl.
What do you mean by that is it hard, soft, spongey. Or does it work normally but every once in a while go to the floor and not brake very well. if its that one its the master cylinder. if its hard... i dont reallly know maybe your brake booster is like tweaking out.

I don't think it's the master cylinder cause it's new and not leaking. I don't think it's air in the system either. Had them bled. When it does it, the pedal won't go down. It seems stuck at the top. It takes alot of pumping to free it up. then it's fine for weeks. The service guy at the nearest dealer thinks it's a piston in a caliper getting stuck. Anybody ever have that problem? It's dangerous cause when it happens I got no brakes. How do you diagnose the problem?

I dont know really about it but when anything gets stuck without a patern is because something is loose broken or bent. So i would suggest checking the bolts around it and see if theres any loose.

How do you diagnose the problem? You already have-Your brakes are bad-Fix em before you get that green powdercoated intake-Dont want you, or innocent bystanders to die. Ever wonder why most wrecked MK2s are front hits? Bling before Brakes!
