Equipped with new tires, and having a smooth ride I still have a slight vibration in the drivers side rear mirror.Does anyone who bought their car new or close to origional have that problem? I'm thinking the mirror may be loose in the mount, but am paranoid I'm going to break the glass trying to reseat it

Mine does that too but I think it's the pins that hold the glass to the motor.

Under the little interior triangle there are two screws - half the time the vibration is due to one or the other of these being loose. The other half of the time it's the mirror actuator ball and socket - which after so many years breaks causing the mirror to be difficult to adjust. If the socket is just cracked but not yet completly broken then you'll get a little 'shimmy' as you drive. Just put a hula skirt on it and enjoy.

The glass isn't that hard to get out.....just pull the little balls/white plastic rods out of the sockets on the glass....SLOWLY.
Mabey see behind the mirror.....
I have the same problem but, had to disassemble the mirror for painting so I never really looked to see if anything was loose.

Actually, there are three screws that bolt the mirror 'holding bracket' in place.
As charles said, half the time it's behind the mirror, but the other half the time, I'd say it's because the mirror holding bracket is cracked between the two screws and the third, about 6" down from the two screws.

I had a vibration in the mirror, took apart the door components, and found the mirror bracket cracked. So I went to the yards, ripped apart about 10 doors and finally came across one that the bracket wasn't cracked...

The bracket is metal, and could be fixed if you have a welder, but remember that there is a Driver and Passenger side and you have to find the 'right' side.

My drivers side mirror is exactly like this because I ran into it with the garbage can on garbage day getting the can to the curb.

Yup, cracked mirror bracket it is. Design flaw, it gets flexed every time the door opens and closes, I am suprised you were able to find one that was not broken in a junkyard. Evey one I have ever seen was broken.

Is the metal bracket you speak of the one behind the plastic housing with the motors? ( a pictue would be nice)

Sorry no pic.
The metal bracket looks like an 'A'.
The little triangula piece on the inside sticks to it and the entire mirror bolts to it.
There are two bolts under where the bottom of the mirror is (outside door metal) and the third one bolts to the inner door metal down about 6". So you have to take the interior door panel off to remove it properly.

Just came back from the junkyard...damm your right. I took apart about three of them only to discover that they were all cracked near the second and third bolt...:duh:

Ok, now we just need someone ambitious to create a sturdier replacement :)

How about just replace the bracket with a passenger side one if they are interchangeable?

You can't they're slightly curved inward for the side they belong on...so no they are not interchangable..time to use the EPC and get a part number

I don't know how well that would weld. It's some sort of pot metal or aluminum--not steel. That's why it breaks of course. (Caveat: I'm talking about Gen 2 Celicas and MK1 Supras--don't know about the rest, but sounds the same.)

Can you take apart the mirror so that you could swap them out. I have passanger side one with the plastic housing broke. The metal mount is fine. Has anyone taken one apart and put one pack together without destroying the plastic frame?

The metal mount(almost a triangle) is seprate from the mirror itself.
Never seen one not broken myself. Tried some popular 2 part epoxy, and ya, that didn't work...
