View Full Version : Headlight alignment

This may be something of a silly question. It certainly seems ridiculous that this has gotten so bad that it needs to be done!

When I purchased my Supra, I didn't get the owner's manual or anything with it -- this car isn't very well-recorded. So if there were instructions on how to align the headlights (driving lights, not pop-ups) I'm no longer in possession of them.

And so, I turn to you people for help.

The way I understand it, the little rectangular lights on the very front of the car are my driving lights, low-beams, whatever you choose to call them. The pop-ups work as my brights and fog lights. Correct me if I'm wrong?

So my left front driving light is pointed maybe two feet in front of the car -- no good for driving in the dark! And the right one isn't that much higher, which makes me super uncomfortable!

Does anyone have either a scan of the pages from the owner's/service manual that explains this procedure, or an explanation themselves? It'd be wonderfully helpful.

Thanks!

Just to let you know, the little "rectangular" lights are your fog lights.
The flip-ups are your normal/high beam lights.

You're not an idiot...
Many people have converted their fog lights to be able to function as daytime driving lights.

Normally, the fog lights only turn on when your flip-ups are on.

And now for the REAL fun part.

The 85 owners manual does not explain how to aim your foglights. Only explains how to change the H3 bulbs.

Neither does the 85 TSRM. Only talks about electrical wiring diagnostics.

This is one of those "discover by trial & error" things.

On the outside edge of the foglight trim rings, you'll see a screw on the side of the housing & another one on top. Those are your adjustment screws. It's similiar to the screws that are used to aiming the pop-up headlights. The one on the side does the "side to side", the other one does the up & down. Get a phillips head screwdriver & start turning clockwise if it's pointed downward too much.

:ptdr: Congrats ... you figured this out in four posts. There are people on here with 1000+ who can't get that far.:eek4dance: :inout7xr:

Kidding ... kidding ...

But good luck on the adjustment screws not being siezed/rusted like the titanics propeller. I'm in salty ol' Canada so maybe mine are worse than others...
