Hi.

My new baby seems to have sprung a bit of a leak. She drips gas from out behind the tank. I just filled her today, she never did it before this! Upon taking it to a shop, they proceeded to tell me that these things are notorious for having the fuel line rot out just above the tank. Confirm/deny?

They also quoted me $600, and three weeks to GET the part. I have a sneaking suspicion that someone here might know a better source for said part than this -- maybe not, though! Does anyone know?

I mean, it's not like it's pouring gas out like nothing else, and it's only right from the tank, a little drip. Hell, maybe there's just a hole rusted in the tank somewhere. It seems like there's a plastic pan of some sort mounted under the tank, and it's dripping off that, but definitely from behind it. I'm not entirely sure what this is -- I'm not exactly mechanically inclined, yet. Is there any way I could check the tank for a leak myself?

I needed a fuel line for mine. I called the local Toyota dealership, they wanted $287 just for the fuel hose! It has some strange looking fittings on it. I found a Celica GTS in the local pick your own part junkyard and got it for free because I was buying some other parts. I suspect one from other Toyota models will work as well.
You should be able to see where the leak is by backing the car onto a pair of ramps and removing that plastic cover (it only has one bolt in it). The rubber lines and fittings are mostly visible by looking back at them from the front of the tank. Just dry off everything you can reach and see where it gets wet again.
Good Luck!
