I'm doing a swap of an 83 5mge into an 84 supra. I have found that the alternator is different. Are there going to be any more surprises that I'm going to run into?? I really like (okay LOVE!!!!!!!) my supra. I'd like to get her up and screamin' , but i don't want to rush anything. I already have the 83 eng and trans in the car, but before I continue I would like some assisstance or extra help on this one. It's not my first engine swap, but all the other swaps I've done were ford and chevy. I know that toyota did things a little different than these domestic makers. Any help or info would be great!!!

Thanx

Are you using the 84 harness or the 83? There are differences in them.

I'm usind the 84 harness. I still have the 84 engine and trans. I want to rebuild them and have a good running pair for when I take the car copletely down and give her a good makeover. I have hope of a complete restore someday

Cant he Scott just use what the car has and change the throttle body and tps. 83 tps has a different plug. I swapped an 84 into an 83 and used the shit forgot which harness I used now. I forgot. I know the plug is different for the TPS on the throttle body

When doing swaps of different years, I found it's best to use the harness and hardware from the car year and not the engine year. The new engine going in then becomes an 84 or an 83 or whichever year hardware you put onto it to match the car.

Don't the 83 engines have lower compression?

The body plug is different. I know this from experience....the tps should be the same. Some 84 used square tps. Me I'd use the 84 engine, you got the d shaped intake, and the higher compression.

Yup,

83 motor is 150 hp, 159 torque. 8.8 compression.

84 5-speed has the 160 hp, 163 torque w/ the 9.2 compression. Unless it's an Automatic, then it basically used the 83 motor.
