So I took my car in to get it to pass the Emission well it didn’t pass, the tech told me it didn’t pass because the NO PPM is hire than normal, at 15 MPH the limit is 1286 my car result was 3191, at 25 MPH the limit is 1250 my car result was 1583. Does anyone know what I need to be looking for? The tech told me that it had to do with the air flow or something was over heating? I can take it somewhere else and have it pass but I would like to know if someone has an idea to what I need to check or replace. I have notice that my car leaks coolant form the reserve can???? Once I turn the engine off, don’t really know if that has something to do with it. The temperature seems to be normal.

Your car leaks coolant from the overflow can EVERY time youturn the engine off?? The only reasons I can think of the overflow can leaking is:
1) you filled your rad and overflow can to the brim. Might leak once if you idle the car in one place you will notice the leak as the car warms up. Won't cause high temps
2) Something is gettingin to the water system and displacing the water ex. air or oil. Could be a symptom of BHG. oil will cause brown water though. Lets not go there
3) bad rad cap. Can cause high temp
4) coolant system not full and has air in it. Can cause high temps

I don't know what would cause high NO.

well i know that there is no oil and water mixing inside the engine, that is good. I do remember filling the overflow that might be the reason why it leak twice but it doesn't leak everytime.

I live in Richmond VA but i didn't remember the emission test when i register the car in VA for the first time. I thought VA only have safety inspection? Umm maybe this is something i should be worried about..

Check your egr system. If valve not opening or plugged no will be high.
Ckeck with a vaccumm pump. Put pump on erg valve, start car and pump tool.
If engine idle dosent drop a lot or stall, egr sys is plugged or valve is broken.

good luck

Only certain parts of Virginia require Emmissions Inspections, Northern Virginia does for sure, and I know that the western part of VA does not. I'm not positive about southern VA but I would think places like Richmond/VA Beach would due to the number of cars located there. Check your local DMV/website.
Good luck with getting that to pass. It cost me $175 per year (for 3 years) to get my 82 tuned so it would pass the damn emissions test (which cost $35). Stupid virginia! Ha in one year my 82 will be emissions exempt.

Yeah....EGR system is the usual culprit. Sometimes the intake plenum gets so filled up with crud that it also causes NOx to go up....may have to have it cleaned out.

Hmm, this took me awhile to find, and I know the words to search on. Here are a few things I've written in the past

http://forums.celicasupra.com/showthread.php?t=19802&page=2

- Cleaning EGR system – The pipe that goes to the rear of the head can be reamed out using a cheap pickup tool, with the grabber on the end. I saw one at the Dollar Store today (along with a magnetic pickup tool). Then use a carb cleaner or solvent to flush it. Or a gun cleaning brush.

- Make sure the EGR piping isn't full of carbon by chasing it out with a flexible pick-up tool (the grabber kind). This is the pipe from under the EGR valve to the manifold on the back of the Cyl Head, often clogged. Clean out the manifold too.

---
Lynn's (scorpmatt's dad) car had a plugged EGR pipe (carbon deposits), a bad EGR valve, AND a crack in the rubber air intake hosing, all contributing to an Emission failure (check all the soft rubber sections). Also check all the easily accessible vacuum hosing - if it still has the original markings like #2 and #4 it is 20+ years old and is leaking. ($10).

It is also possible that your O2 sensor is bad. Not sure if that gives high NO, but there are lots of sites about emissions failures, I'm just giving you the frequent Supra failures.
