Ive been talking with sam, and Im very interested in his 85 Celica Supra. However, since he is in canada, and I am in the US, I am wondering if it would be possible to swap the digital dash, with an american one, so that its not broadcasting Km. It will also save me the trouble of having to translate to my friends how many -miles- on it :zzzzz:
I know it probably is possible, but my old 85 type P had the analog dash, so I dont know on the Digital one :duh:
Anyways thanks for your time :)

yes digital dashes can be swapped - the odometers are still the old scrolling type.

If memory serves, there is a button on the cluster somewhere to switch between KPH and MPH on the speedo.
Skip the mileage conversion.

Skip the mileage conversion.very good point!
Just in case we are misunderstanding you, you weren't trying to switch out an analog cluster for a digital one. This process is a lot more invasive than simply switching clusters.

Check the bottom left corner of that picture - one is to clear the odometer, the other is to change the display from MPH - KPH & vise versa

you should just be able to switch the odometer - different gear settings for MPH and KPH

but will stuck with the KM marking on the cluster...unless you scratch out the K (may not give good results...)

Funny,I never thought of the miles-vs-km on the odometer until this thread. But yes,I have played with my digi, and it's entertaining,to swap to KM and have a pass look at the "speed" you running,in town, even though they can "feel" it's not quite right ;) one of those WTF moments.

Changing out the odometer is like doing brain surgery with a pick-axe.
Yes, just push the button to change the speedometer scale from km/h to mph. And to convert the odometer, just multiply the kilometer reading by 0.62. B.F.D.
BTW, I have a Canada-spec '85. It's really not a big deal. And FWIW, I think the US needs to get in line with the rest of the planet and start using the metric system. :p
