I am going to put a hidden start switch on my car. I have the swich and the plugs for the ignition switch. There are three positions on the switch: Acc, Run, Start. There are 6 wires on the harness and the EWD only identifies 4 of them. It says which ones are the (+) and then the three grounds for the Acc, Run and Start.
I need help with exactly how the contacts inside the ignition switch work.
My questions are these:
1) When the car is starting does the Run contact need to be closed.
2) Does the Acc contact stay closed when the switch is in the Run position.
3) What are the other 2 wires for and
4) Do I need to splice and of the (+), Acc, Run or Start back in to the cars harness.
I am doing this with one switch that has a closed contact position with a momentary switch. I plan/hope that I will be able to only hook up the run and start wiring. And, I plan on not using the ignition switch to start the car.
Thanks for the help.

I had a switch setup to start my supra. The acc. needs to be off when the starter is being used, and it needs to be in the on position. The stock ignition switch cuts acc. power when running the starter. When the car is in the run position the acc. is also on, I used an all out switch setup on my supra so Im not quite sure how to just have a seperate start button.

I was thinking of instaling a switch as well but i was thinking of disabling the efi with the switch instead of the ignition. right now if i park in a place i dont trust i pop the hood and take out the efi relay.

Darrow, give me a call tomorrow "sunday" or stop by.Should be pretty easy to do this.Pretty much the same as my old race car wiring.
If I read correctly,all you want is start/run ....

I will stop by tomorrow. Let me know what's a good time to stop by.
Thanks Shawn.
All I want is start run due to my battery situation.

OK I found out what is happening. Look at my repair manual which on a component level is better than the EWD. For overall power supply routing the EWD is needed.
Answers to my questions:
1)When starting the run and start contacts are closed.
2)The acc and run are closed at the same time. When starting the acc contact is opened.
3)The other two wires are for the hazard wiring
4)Nope just remove from the system. Splicing them back in will only make the key and what ever switch both work. The hazard wiring needs to be wired up for them to work. I think the power wire needs to be passed through to keep the hazards working.
I am working with both key side and dash side connectors. So what I need to do is to leave the two center connectors in the harness and remove 3 corner connectors from the key side of the harness.
New Question:
Which side of the harness is the key side and what is the car side of the harness. I need to know which is male and which is female. From the Repair Manual it looks like the male side is the key side. By male, I am refering to the metal connectors not the outer plastic. Can someone verify this?
Thanks
