My guess is yes. Supporting evidence;

1. The 1JZ/2JZ swap section off the forum
2. Sticky thread at the top of the above forum on how to swap a 2JZ in a Mk2
3. Search for Norbie

It's hilarious that he posted this question in the 2JZ swap section.

Nah I moved it from the 7M section

Tell us your budget, then I'll tell you if it's possible. :)

The first pitfall of major engine conversions: inadequate (or non-existant) budgeting. Dreams and aspirations are one thing, but if you don't have the money to keep the whole thing rolling you'll just have a collection of parts and a car that doesn't drive.

yea....thats y i want to know how much the entire project should cost because id rather not buy the engine until i can buy all the necessary parts to install it....if you could just give me a estimated price id appreciate it...and im thinking of swapping my engine for a 1jzgte because those are much cheaper

I have been doing a lot of research on engine swaps the past few months and ONE thing I have learned is that you can't just say you can put in enigine "x" for "y" amount of dollars. That is unless you know of a person/shop that is willing to do this for you at a set price. The price of jz engine swap doesn't scare me as much as the actual work that goes into it.

well...yea i get that and im looking forward to the work, but im not asking for an exact cost...simply a rough estimate...im going to do all the work myself and i even know how much the engine will cost (roughly) i just really need to know how much the extra part that i may need to acquire and how much they would cost

Okay....... Now that we know you're current budget is basically down to zero at the moment.....

Reread ALL of Norbie's postings FROM THE BEGINNING!!! Even the ones going back 3 - 4 years ago. Plan X amount for the parts for your initial install. Then plan for YYYYY amount for parts that you will be replacing later on, because they keep breaking... Let's see... Norbie has been through about 4 W58 5-speeds already.. Not sure on the exact amount for the rear diff's....

Basically there isn't really even a "rough estimate" amount, because you never know what you'll need to replace next, because it broke... Well, at least with Norbie that is...

i cant plan X amount for the parts because i have a very scarce idea of what parts i need....i know some but i understand the difficulty of this conversion so i know that there may be other parts that i would not expect to need...im going to attempt to find his posts and read them to see if that helps
thanx..

Save about 15k$
Than start building your collection of parts.
I would suggest
r154 trans w new syncros at least, a new clutch assy
larger diff yolk for the new 1 piece drive shaft that your gonna want.
new true track rear diff-you might get away w the stock gearing for a while.
front mounted intercooler and pipes$
A 1 or 2 jz engine gt or not.
Fabricating or buying of the motor mounts.
All the fabrication and wiring issues-get a factory wiring manual for the supra and donor engine if you can.
Start saving for it now, I bought my car after saving for it and selling my (was going to kill myself on it) motorcycle, and than drove the car for 4 yrs while saving for the transplant.
The car is still being worked on after 7 monthes, winters almost here in portland:duh:
If you can do the project yourself and have the tools/time/money/ability, this would be a fun project in my opinion, I'm farming my project out, but getting a great deal on parts and labor IMHO.
Good luck and like stated above, do the research man!
All your answers are in the forum and the parts/engine are best had by your local auto enthusiests in your vicinity-best way to find parts, also supra forums and E-bay work well.
You might be able to do this project on 7-8K$ if your lucky, but save up the extra and you'll have some fall back cash when something breaks.

From the other forums Norbie posts on, he is reknown for his binary foot... Either it's flat on the accelerator or off (Quoting from someone else), also that he trys and concerntrate on breaking the weakest part in his car (Also quoting from someone else)... Apparently he has still got his original Trutrac diff center with a lower diff ratio but don't know how many original LSD he may have gone through before the trutrac.

With my engine conversion, I budgeted about the a price of going out to buy a MA71 and I shot way past that mark but that was because of buying new parts from Toyota and doing a major service to the engine whilst it was out...

* At times I did wish I bought an MA71

Cheers.

Ya can do these conversions on a small budget if ya can source the parts cheap, an example is my 1jz cressida conversion that i finished last week.

$1200 for engine with auto, ecu and harness
$600 on the small bits (oils, fluids, hoses)
$1150 exhaust, 3 inch mandrel with high flow cat and muffler.
$150 crossmember and mounts
Front sump was free
But i had lots of parts lying around like some old supra ic piping which is used and a crown thermo fan. But i'm still stuck with an auto.

These are aussie dollars.

But i also can vouch that if ya want to go all out on these conversions they can cost a small fortune. My 2jz ma61 is a prime example of this.

Front clip + various parts cost me just over $5K, but that was adding things like new front and rear main seals, timing belt, valve cover gaskets, stage 3 clutch, etc all while doing the swap.

All you need are the motor mounts, and find another radiator and intercooler, and driveshaft. The R154 goes into the stock location with the mounts I'm using, and it uses the stock transmission X-brace too.

Not counting the cost of the engine or any other performance part, keeping EVERYTHING xJZ stock, it costed me less than $2000 (radiator and intercooler and piping included). That is just to get it running and driveable form (not including the engine!).

It's not so outrageous.

what is outrageous, is how much I've spent performance wise.
