When I jump the timing connector and start my car the check engine light does not come on or blink like it's supposed to.
With a votl-meter connected to each wire 4v are present.
With a volt-meter connected to the e2 and +b of the ecu 11v are present.
Blew a fuse when I shorted the e2 and +b which made the check engine light Go out. Replacing the fuse brought it back on.
With a probe touching the t on the ecu and the other end clipped to ground the check engine light does not come on or blink.
What am I missing here?
How will the timing be affected if I adjust the distributor with out jumping the base-timing-mode connector? And what should I try to set the timing to if I were to do it that way?
My idle is at a raging 2000 rpm. It's madness. I've been going through checking each vacuum line and tightening them to prevent a vacuum leak.
Only a few times after starting my car has my idle been as low as 1500 rpm for about 5 seconds or until I rev. It then returns to 2000 rpm.
Do you think it's the tps making the base-timing unavailable? I haven't really troubleshooted the tps yet.
One last thing..
I connected my timing light and was gonig to check what the timing read when the timing light wasn't strobing correctly. It was really spaced out and off key. I switched the timing clip to other ignition cables and some were strobing correctly and some were sporatic and not constant. The other half strobed fine. When disconnecting a sporatic and non-constant strobe patterned ignition cable it was apparent that the engine's performance was greatly disrupted; ie, the cable was funtioning well.
Very tired, good night and thanks in advance.
