What are you guys running for antennas? My stock power antenna is broken. the motor and cable/mast are good. I checked it with direct 12V. it's the stupid blue control box that's bad. It'll push it up, but not down. i hear the box click, but that's it. I wouldn't mind getting a nice factory style/fit non-power antenna. but our antenna is on that angle body line, that's inherient to toyota. I don't like the universal aftermarket type crap. looks cheezy. My '94 runner came with a power antenna, and i bought a factory fit aftermarket non-power unit for like $20. mast and all. looks nice and factory with the proper bolt head bezel. But I can't seem to find something like that for the supra.

Best 'non power' antenna is the 1982 'in windshield' antenna.
Cheaper than the motorized one too.

Ken, how do you get one of those? Do you have to have Toyota install it or is available from windshield installers?

Just call up any autoglass place and ask for the 1982 Toyota Supra windshield. Just verify that it has the antenna in it.
I think the only options you have are to have that 3" top portion 'smoked' or not - all 82 windshields had the antenna built in, but who knows if they stock by calender year or vehicle year...
Last year I was quoted $170 from Elite in Aurora.

If you go with a windshield antenna then you either have a second non-working one in back or a hole to fill and panel to paint....I don't think so...

Another idea would be to check with the local dealer for similar applications...from Toyota trucks, Camry's, etc.

All you'll need to KEEP AND REUSE is the angled groument to use with the new antenna.

Have you used the 'Search' button? There are a number of solutions in this forum including Wes Hetrick's great write up.

I may have the power unit you need. If interested PM me and I'll dig thru my stash....

So what's the problem with having a non-working (retracted) one in the back?
Stock antenna has two states: 1. not working, Retracted and 2. working, Extended...
There is no hole to fill but if you were going to paint soon anyway, it would be a good idea to flush the antenna hole up as the base of the antenna is a common rust spot anyway...
Nobody sees the antenna connection behind the center console and the radio reception is better with the 'in windshield' antenna.

So what do you mean 85_6mge when you say 'I don't think so'?

I have used a black VW type antenna for years and had no problems, the grommet is indeed cut at almost the same angle as the supra, if you wanted to make it perfect it could be easily with some trimming. I only spent $10 ten years ago and it finally was bent this summer, now to find two of them for my two sups.

I just had the windshield replaced in my '82 with the embedded antenna. I was surprised that they were still being made. I had it installed by Safelite Glass. Part was $68.77.

Looks like the relay box crapped out (the Blue box). Have access to any spare antenna's??? Even junkyard ones????

Major hint when replacing the relay box. Disconnect your battery. Leave your battery connected & the replacement relay box will also then be dead when you reattach it.

PM's sent. I also need the angled gromet and nut that go on the outside of the car to hold the antenna. this antenna i picked up didn't come with it.

I'm actually debating buying an antenna like I have on my 94 4runner. It comes complete, mast, everything for about $12. Non-power, METRA part. But either way I'd like to try and keep the stock power set up.... at least as a back up, or just to have.
