View Full Version : different year model AFM
My afm is dead completely shot. Now im having a hell of a time find one for my 82. The dealership can no longer get the part and my 3 local salvage yards dont have one either. So my question would be is the AFM year specific or am I gonna have to track down the elusive 82 AFM.

unfortunately, the 82 AFM is the oddball of the bunch and has to be replaced with the same type. Why do you think that you're AFM is dead?
sorry for the post should have searched more before posting but ive found my answer
Well it suddenly died on me coming home I made a post about 2 weeks ago I beleive. Well when it died it jarred hard then died let out a nice thick haze of black smoke after a moment it refired. It did this about 4 times trying to get it home I checked the simple stuff fuel, spark, timing, and ignition timing still nothing wouldnt even fire up. So then I went a little deeper had my ECU checked thought maybe my cold start injector sensor died so I changed it still nothing. So I spoke with my local dealer shop manager and a local shop owner both immediatly told me it was my AFM. Thats really all I have to go on if you have any other suggestions it would be much appreciated.

Without testing your AFM, you might as well totally disregard what the moron shop manager says. Start with the basics, does your coil/ignitor still work? Fuel pump still pumping? Getting spark at the plugs? Out of gas even?
Fuel pump is working properly im getting spark to all 6 plugs and I have fuel. Its actualy getting way to much gas. Which is why or atleast I was told why it was beleived to be the AFM. The pressure was tested on the fuel line by a friend since I dont have a gauge according to him its gettting by the spec from the pump to the EFI. I Admit my knowledge is limited to haynes, and this forum but if any other ideas as always id appreciate it.

Well you might want to break out the multimeter and start testing them AFM.

Did you check to see if the flap in the AFM is stuck? I would start there and see if the flap moves freely throughout it's range and then check the AFM with a ohmmeter.
