Hello All: Well after letting my 84 Blue Supra< sit for 1.5 years or so , starting it every six months or so but not moving it because of a bad master cylinder. I finally got it fixed because I received an emissions notice. I only had a chance to fill the tank and drive about 40 miles, to warm it up. It had passed the last time (2 years ago.) I just thought that I'd maybe have a problem since it hasn't been driven in two years. Well sure enough it passed emissions well within acceptable limits. The best part is since it older than 1996 I am now exempt forever, or until the rust gets me. This is a new law that apparently went into effect last year (2005).

If they ever repeal the law you need to get out of the city, here in southern Illinois, we don't have emmission or safety checks, and would be willing to bet it will be a very, very long time before we do. It's the only advantage of not living in Metro-East or Chicago.

Here in Colorado, they started a state run test about 10 years ago. They have lost so much money they are setting up onramp screening vans that test you as you drive by, so that people don't have to go to the test stations unless they fail the drive by. No testing saves the state money.

I dont know about Illinois but here in MO the state has figured out that "Gateway clean air act" that we are using is actually using us..We have to pay 25-60$ to take the test pass or fail..Then you will have to have receipts showing that you have done $600 in repairs to get a exempt release..
Well as of sept 2007 all of the cars that are 1996 and older are all exempt.. Every car that is 1996 and newer is OBDII and can pass or fail just by plugging into the diagnostic port at any inspection station and or dealer..It will be much easier to mod your car and not have to worry about the smog Natzi's now...

I'll post the law reference number when I get home tomorrow(its listed on my form). I cant find anything on the Ill EPA website, which doesn't surprise me.

So yeah no smog POLICE, to bother me in Berwyn
