so, i finally got a 91 turbo (pics to come) with some very minor issues all around. the pressing ones:
headlights won't pop up. i thought i could manually lift them to go cruisin tonight, but the damn hood is stuck! i need help getting the hood open as well as fixing the stupid lights.
oh, and the previous owner has mcgiver-ized the hatch to open with a 4 foot rope. classy! has anyone fixed that before?

Sounds like you need a new hatch release cable, previous owner probably thought it was too expensive, didn't bother to look in junkyards.

as far as the hood, it's probably out of adjustment. once it gets opened, get a friend to help you, unbolt the hood from its hinges, not all the way though. Just enough so you can adjust it back a little, and then test close the hood a few times to get it right.

the headlights probably have a bad fuse or relay.

it seems the latch release on the hood was dead. fixed now. headlights manually raised but the bad news is the previous owner did some shotty wiring all over. will take a while to figure this mess out. no night driving for a while.

how i opened hood: one person hold the release while someone else "prys" the hood open with a screwdriver wrapped in a heavy towel. we propped it up enough to get our fingers in and voila!
for those not aware, there are little screw thingies next to the lamps you can manually turn to get the lights up.
