hey if anyone can help me out or point me in the right direction, please do! i just rebuild my first motor and put it in (Stock 83 5m-ge), after watching it sit for two years. I was carfull when i took it out, and paid attention to where everything went. i even took pictures as i disassembled it. As fas as i know everything is plugged in, bolted down and ready to start. i turned the key and there was nothing not even power to the inside. i checked the battery and it IS good. so im thinking it might be a bad ground connection. i checked all the grounds i could think of (the tranny, the starter, the alternator, the head, and the battery itself). they are all good connections. i don't know if im forgeting some or if its something else. but if anyone has come across this while putting there motor in. let me know what it was, or even what you think it could be. any help will be apprieciated.

There is a ground that goes on the intake manifold.
Check fuses/fusible links in the engine compartment.
Check positive wiring from battery to starter, You may have forgotten to connect the small connector.

i would look at the fusible links, if there is no power to anything then its a main power issue, not just the motor. Sometimes the links look good from the outside but are burnt out inside.

The little connecter on the starter is pluged in and the other is boted on. Where is the ground on the intake and by fuseabel links, you mean the ones in the black box on the driver side of the engine bay right? those and the ones under the dash are all good. also i checked my battery before i installed it and it was good. but after i put it in it went dead within a few mins.

Take a voltmeter and start checking where you have power and where you don't. Something's drawing power from the battery (yeah, I know, duh!). If it's killing it within a few minutes, than it must be taking it right to ground somewhere. Have you check for any bare wires near the battery?

There is a ground wire that bolts to the intake manifold. Im not sure where it comes from though, sorry.
