View Full Version : I want to sell a 1985 Toyota Celica Supra

JC965

This Toyota Celica supra is in almost mint condition aside from a hole in the drivers side turn signal (in pictures) on the front of the car, a dent behind that (also in pictures) and an engine problem (most likely a piston). Other than this the car is in beautiful condition and has never seen a winter. It has had only one previous owner before me. There is absolutly no rust whatsoever on this car. The frame is in perfect condition. The rest of the cars mechanical engineering is in perfect condition, and everything else works wonderfully. It also has a power sunroof, power windows, and the subwoofers in the trunk are included. Below the subwoofers is a brand new full size spare tire on a brand new toyota celica supra rim (as seen in pictures). In the trunk, there is also a pull down cover that hides the subwoofers. There is also a cubby hole in the trunk that fits most size amplifiers and conceals them nicely. This is an amazing deal on a rare car! The only reason i'm not replacing the engine on this car, is because i can only afford one car, and this one is impractical for buffalo weather. If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me at mooney_who@yahoo.com.

No strings attached, no bullshit, I just want to sell this car for $2,000.00 If you are interested in seeing pics. of this car Just email me, and I'll send them.

A member of this forum told me I could get more response here. I'm just trying to sell my car. Not trying to nickle and dime parts off of it (sorry guys), so the straight deal is written on my last post. If there is no takers then so be it, but don't try and call me a scam artist.

Hi there, I'm about 30 miles away from you. I would definitely be interested in your car if it wasn't for the price. As "rare" as you think these cars may be, none of them are worth $2k with a blown engine, and a piston issue basically equates to being BLOWN.

Wish you the best of luck trying to sell it for that price. You would have better luck parting it out on this forum

i just paid 1400 for trim tanya. saying there is no such thing as a 2000 $ supra without an engine is a bit much.

I am sure there are a few guys here who might want more than 2k for their supra even without the engine.

If you have $10,000 in bodywork and paint I can see that, but we aren't talking about that are we?

I'm sorry, I have a Mk2 with a blown engine in my driveway right now, that has tons of modifications that I tried to sell for $600 OBO.

I don't see this car being picked up.

If you don't care if you have to sit on it a while, keep the 2k asking price...someone might come along. If you want it gone quick(a month or so), ask 1k for it.

lol, take some breaths, count to 10, it'll be ok.

This person is not a car enthusiast, so he doesn't really know exactly what he has. I'm sure he considers the car rare as their really aren't many Supras around here. There's only 2 other forum members besides myself that are around Buffalo. I've been here for almost 6 months and have not seen another Supra here besides my own and Joe Shantz'.

I guess it's best for all of us to remember...

Hi JC, Im the one who emailed you to post it on the forum. Sorry about some of the other members remarks and opinions. The car is really nice especially for being in B-lo its whole life from what I remember the previous owner told me but yeah the blown engine really hurts the value unless you find the right buyer.
That '85 in the local paper I was talking to you about actually was in slightly better condition then yours and had a perfect running engine for $2k. Im kicking myself in the ass right now for not buying it.
Anyways I would give you a low-ball offer but I doubt your interested. Good luck with the sale!

If the body is rust free, I would hit it for $1200, because I already have a supra. I have a supra with rust, and I will just transplant.

Tomkat
12-08-2006, 10:28 AM
I quess is depends on were you are as to how rare these cars can be. I see lots of crappy Supras around here, but I paid a grand for granny's automatic last year with a bad engine and have not seen anything close to this condition expect a couple of garage queens that went for over 4 grand. I can replace engines, but I can't replace a clean body and interior without many hours of work trying to find parts and then fixing it. With that said, 2 grand is too much. Oh yea, how many miles are on that car?? That can make a big difference as well.

Drift_Supra
12-08-2006, 10:47 AM
try putting it on autotrader or parking it in a local mini-mall parking lot. That's how I found mine when I bought it years ago. People here are willing to pay BIG BUCKS for Mk2 supras, but only if they are in PERFECT condition. other than that, you will probably get less than book value here due to the fact that everybody here has one.

85midnightsupra
12-08-2006, 11:05 AM
you should replace that corner light! its a easy fix; then there wouldnt be any imperfections on the body....... its a nice car btw, give it a nice buff and wax and more people would want to jump on it........... shine sells!!

Yea I'd would agree that if you dropped an engine in for like 500 bucks you could easily get 3k+ for it.

Its in great shape and it is a VERY desirable color combo, super deep red with black interior.

If you guys are saying I could drop 5 hundo for an engine....and are telling me to sell it for over 3? Why not pick it up as is for $2,000, drop the 500 dollar engine in yourself, and save youself the loot? Afterall you are the car fanatics here aren't you?

I picked the car up for $3,500 (blue book by the way) last year, without a blown piston, without the hole in the turn signal, but with the dent in the fender. I am already knocking off $1,500 for it and asking for $2,000. So with that known, you are telling me that you could spend $500 on the engine and um...$20 tops for a plastic cover for the turn signal, which would bring it up to about what,
$2,520?......and you guys are saying I could sell it for over 3 with that being done...yeah something doesn't sound right there..... $2,000 sounds fair for this car.

Eric
12-09-2006, 06:52 PM
This is alot of discussion for a for sale thread...

That being said, I'd say you have a $2500 car there if it ran great. As is - you're more in the $1000-$1500 range. You paying $3500 last year was just too high.

Let's preface this all and say that this is not the place to get top dollar for a MKII Supra, everyone here is a fixer-upper kind of car enthusiast with typically more than one MK2. People here will gladly jump on a deal - you're better off working the ebay or autotrader route to find someone who just likes the car, but it will be a tough sell without it running. Good luck!

Eric

Tanya
12-09-2006, 07:08 PM
but it will be a tough sell without it running. Good luck!

Eric

This is basically the bottom line here... not many people want to buy a non-running car for $2,000, and the value of these cars hasn't really appreciated all that much yet.

85midnightsupra
12-09-2006, 09:30 PM
yup, and not everyone here is a do it yourself kinda person. take me for example, i wouldnt pay $2000 for the car as it is, but i would pay $3500 if that engine was fixed...... some people just want to deal with the hassle of "putting in a another engine" b/c someone like me would have to pay lots of $ to have another engine put in....

Fixer uppers....how much would you be willing to pay for a rust free shell? The car has low miles and is supposed to be rust free. I must be the only one missing something here.

I'd rather spend $2k for a rust free, low mileage car that I could fix mechanically (i.e. if I knew how) as opposed to $2k on a MK2 that runs great and has body cancer - which would ultimately cost more than $2k to fix/paint.

^^^^I agree. I have a $200 Mk2 right now that I will be doing a TON of body work to. The interior and engine are mint so a rust free shell is right up my alley. However, I'm in University and broke as hell...so that dream will have to wait. Good luck with selling the car. Im sure someone will give you a decent offer, though I doubt it will be exactly what you are looking for.

Ah, so after you offered it to me for $1200, you found a buyer that met your price. Good for you. It would have been nice for you to have TOLD me that you SOLD the car before I made several long-distance phone calls over THREE DAYS to your answering machine, house, and cell with no replies or feedback what-so-ever.

I normally don't post private messages, but here we go:

Dude, the car is in the same condition as the pictures, I took them about 3 weeks ago? yeah about that long ago. But I would def. come down on this price and take $1,200.00 for it, the only spot of rust is behind the broken turnsignal which is on the corner of a dent....these are all in the pics, look closely and you can see a little bit, but it would be easy to touch something like that up, I assume...

I am not too determined to get $2,000.00 for it anymore because of the greef I've been getting for that price, so I will sell this car for $1,200.00

You can get ahold of me anytime tomorrow or the next day my # is 716-XXX-XXXX. Do you live near buffalo? You may have to get this ar towed...We'll talk about the details when you call.

Thanks for being honest with me about the price and whatnot.
