I've been running a regular Stant Tstat lately. not sure if the car is warming up fast enough I decided to swap it out for a "super stant". Suprise, it doesn't fit. Even though it's called for in the books. I had to hit up the dealer and get a OEM stat and it fit great. I measured the flange thickness of all these thermos. the regular stant was .030". the Super stant was .040". the OEM was also .040". Not sure why, but the super stant wouldn't fit flush like the OEM did. so if you run a stant, it's gotta be the regular one. I tried it, leaked, tried it 99x's and still leaked.

OE is the best Tstat for the 5/6/7Ms

I changed my thermostat 5 or 6 years ago, and I used a Stant "Super Stant" also. I noticed it was chrome plated, and I don't know what else is upgraded from the regular stant, but it was a few bucks more. It fit just fine for me, and works perfectly. I used Form-a-gasket when I installed it, and no leaks. Maybe they make them differently now or something.
For anyone who may read this and has little experience with
changing a thermostat, be sure to:
A) Position the little bleeder valve at the top.
B) Thoroughly clean/flat grind the housing mating surface.
C) Clean the groove in the engine where the t-stat sits on.
D) Keep the thermostat seated in it's groove while bolting down the cover/housing.
E) Not install the t-stat backwards!
Just a few tips for any newbs that may be reading.

did all that. taught me that when I got my A.. S.. um E's. I'm not a fan of using FIPG for the thermostat. it should seal with a fiber/paper gasket.
