I would go with a Raptor Racing 6into1 header first. Just my opinion. I love the s%$t out of mine.

which gets better performance raptor or the chimpys modified pacesetter, and by how much

That I am not sure of Raptor showed a dyno sheet when he was advertising his for the group buy the gain was 10rwhp and 10ftps or torque for the 5mge. I have the 6mge so I am not sure what the increase would be for mine. I do not know what chimpy's is. Better to ask him for that information.

Heck if you use the stock intake tube (and attach a better breathing filter) and get the headers, you will notice a nice difference and also your engine will like it alot more, but if you still have the stock restirctive exhaust, you will be holding the headers back a bit.

I don't know what your power gains will be either, but I'm guessing the header will give you more of a gain. You'll want to open up the rest of the exhaust at the same time. Just so everyone know...the Pacesetter header I sell is definitely not mine, though I'm looking into building a 1 5/8 header soon. The Pacesetter has 1.5" runners, and a measly 2" pipe going into the cat.

I think either way you go, you're off to a good start. If you get a header, you really should do the whole exhaust at one time, but that's just my thoughts.

With my previous Supra, we started on the exhaust first. Ran a pacesetter header through a modified 2.5" collector to a 2.25" catless exhaust which gave the car 12whp over stock. I considered that pretty good. Later on I got the RC intake, but unfortunately, never had the car dyno'd.

On my current car, I started with the RC intake, which felt like it helped a lot. Got some exhaust stuff done recently, and the car feels even better now. I'd have love to get her dyno'd, but she's having some frame stability issues keeping me from doing so :(

I was there for the Raptor Racing header dyno run. Very impressive. Give George a call and get the full exhaust. Header, free flow cat and cat back system. You will not be disapointed.

Header and free flow cat. Call him and he'll set you up.

By the way I have a Raptor Racing header too. Beautiful.

why would i spend the extra on a cat when im removing mine in the next year or less tho...wouldnt it be smarter to just get rid of it

I agree with you for sure, I wouldn't spend the money when it will be removed soon. I mean, of course you can always sell it and get (most?) of your money back, but still.

Headers are a proven better bang for buck than intakes; sure they are more expensive but their $/hp ratio is waaay better IMHO.

quick questoin...my neighbor posted this ( http://spokane.craigslist.org/pts/378773402.html )i was wondering if i could use the first one (for the prelude) because my exhaust is 2.25...and 40 is pretty cheap...even if it only last me two or three years

HATE TO TELL YOU THIS, but Carfreek IS CORRECT!!!!! PLAN ON KEEPING THAT CAT IN YOUR EXHAUST!!!!!

Why??? Spokane County IS NOT A EMISSIONS EXEMPT County!!! You have at least 1 more emissions tests to pass (next year since it's a even numbered year), before your 84 becomes exempt, which will be in 2010 (2009 is when your 84 becomes 25). Nice try!!!

<----- Just looked at the WA State DOT Emissions testing website & confirmed this. You have not earned your free get out of jail card yet....

thnks...tho i already figured that out and fully planned on buying a new cat..
also all the muffler shops i called said even when i dont have to pass emissions, they wont remove a cat anyways because it is part of emissions and it is still required (even tho the tests arent')

Correct. Pretty much any State has to follow this rule. "They" are not allowed to remove it (due to the "not allowed to tamper w/ emissions equipment laws"), but it' does not stop you from removing it yourself. You probably can do so, after you pass your last emissions test.

yeah but i decided when i got this car that i was going to do everything write the first time so i decided i would just wait the extra paycheck...and do one less weekend of paintballing and just buy the cat with the header.
i could do it myself but i have no welder and those clamping exhaust things from schucks suck..so i am just going to do it right...

Chrisfrom1986

What you do is tell the muffler shop to weld flanges on the cat and to not just weld it straight to the piping. That way you can unbolt your cat and bolt in a "test pipe" after your emissions exempt. If they say no, then take your business elsewhere, dont let them do something to your car that you dont want.

I saw an MKII with Dough Thorley headers. Does anyone know how those work compared to raptor racing or pace setter?

RaptorRacing
08-06-2007, 12:25 AM
Unless someone can tell me othewise; the Raptor Racing Header is the ONLY one with a DYNO proven 10rwhp gain. I recall Wes saying that he got about 2rhwp with a Pacesetter. I've never seen one proper back to back testing of the Thorley.

I love you people who bash the Pacesetter.

I will continue to love the fact I gained 12rwhp from the header and exhaust. It may have not been from the header alone, but it's still damn decent.

Tanya;

you know me...I don't knock even a 1hp increase; but if we are talking about header HP increase we need to compare apples to apples:

Back to Back testing on the same car with the header being the only variable. You guys would be amazed at what just a high flow cat would do in comparison to a 20year old factory cat.

If I get my car back on the road this year I plan on doing a back to back to back header dyno with the factory; Raptor Racing; Modified Pacesetter and Doug Thorley.

Seeing my schedule is nuts way into October I doubt that will happen.

Ohhh and Chris...my trip to SILV'07 includes a stop to Sidmans house so we can finally finish the site.

I do agree doing back to back mods is the best, which was what I was trying to do with my black 85 before everything went to hell. But unfortunately, the header wasn't the only variable. Same car, same engine.

I will mention that the baseline dyno I did with stock manifold and stock size piping did not include the cat, so the 12whp gain was from the increase to 2.25" crushed bent exhaust and the PS header.

At any rate, I look forward to future dynos just for headers :)
