Well I went down town cruising around and met up with a bunch of other local sport bike riders. Went on a sprint run with a couple of them on some clovers that was fun.
Then we met up with a bunch more bikes to go on a longer cruise. Well we went on a cruise stopped to wait for one guy then headed back out. About 4 miles later I was the 3rd bike in the batch and was coming across a sharp curve then I see lights fly. So I slow way down come up on the curve and both bikes in front of me are in the ditch. None of them where wearing helmets and only one had leathers on.
The guy with leathers is an experieced rider and his bike took the punishment instead of him as he bailed when it went down. The damage to his bike is pretty considerable the rear subframe snapped off the end and cracked around the mid section. and his plastics are pretty well toast. But he is only with a sore shoulder and calf muscle.
The other bike was a newer rider with a girl on the back. HIs bike laid down and got mostly pavement instead of weeds and bushs. The girls face smacked the pavement (without helmet) and was of course fairly messed up. (lying in the ditch unresponsive) with a tore up face and I believe she also has a broken arm. The guy got rashed up pretty good all over his arms and legs. And was walking with a pretty decent limp.
Anyway I put my hazards on killed my bike ran into the ditch to see if everyone was ok. THe one guy was fine just pissed that hey wrecked his bike.
The other guy was in pain and was making sure the girl wouldn't move. We called 911 and two cops showed up right away and really helped out with the girl and the guys road rash. about 25-30 minutes later the ambulance came. and loaded the girl up.
Well needless to say everyone went pretty slow on the way back to town.
And I will for sure always keep my helmet and leathers on.

Thats sad and stupid at the same time , They don't look very cool rolling down the road without a helmet on do they ?? I've seen this happen and I find it hard to feel bad for anybody who doesn't have the sense to wear a helmet on a bike , sled or quad ,,,jesus christ Easy Rider days are long gone what the hell is wrong with people . Accidents happen it just makes sense to wear the protective gear that works :duh: A good friend of mine just cracked his skull in 3 places , cracked sinus plate and his left eye is now a little off centre .....no helmet / no ride bottom line . Sorry for the rant but that kinda struck a nerve , I also had my best friend drown because he wasn't wearing a lifejacket so please PLEASE people use the protective gear that can save your life no matter how uncool it may look !!!
<--Thoughts and prayers for her .... ( sighs)

Agreed. I'm sorry that she is hurt, but even as a passenger, you should have the good sense to wear a helmet. I've been hurt slightly and really bad on bikes. Just recently out in spain I spilled a little scooter, and got some decent rash, about 4 years ago, I took my dirt bike out for a quick run, and I mean quick, I had rebuilt the carb, and just wanted to hit the hill once to see how it was. No helmet, wound up with a severly dislocated shoulder, if I was wearing a helmet I wouldn't have put my arm up to protect my head. I feel for her, it sucks to learn the hard way that unless you are wearing a helmet you just don't get on a bike. I hope everything comes out ok, and she has no more than scars and stories, and remembers to (and reminds others to) wear a helmet.

OMG how can anyone ride a motorbike without a FULLFACE helmet. Even some local Hells Angels have recently switched to a proper helmet, skullcaps just mean your hair will look nice when your face is smeared on the road.
I hope your friend will be OK...

I use to get some funny looks while driving my old Panhead. Everyone else were wearing open face helmets where I was wearin a full face. Now I dont believe wearing a seatbelt in a car or truck should be a law, because statistics show there are damn near as many people killed because of their seatbelt. Hell, just before I left Montana, there was an accident where a Bronco got nailed. The truck had 4 people in it. All 3 passengers were wearing their seatbelt. The driver was not. The driver was the only one that survived. I also dont believe there should be a law making one wear a helmet. Personal safety should be left up to the person, not the government. I do however believe that not wearing a helmet on a bike is a good method of weeding out the stupid people.

I ride without wearing a fullface helmet, it's my perogative. Wearing the "proper" riding equip is just like wearing a seatbelt or having the airbags on in a car, adults can either use it or not, but should realize the dangers of doing without.
I know I for one am ready to except the responsibility of my actions if something happens to me. I don't wear leather and I don't wear a full face helmet (although I do plan on buying one eventually, if just avoid the wind noise that screwed my hearing for a week)
Personal safety should be left up to the person, not the government.
TRUTH!!!

I agree helmet laws and seatbelt laws for adults is silly. That being said you will never see me on the street or dirt with out a full face helmet on. I have bean hit in the face on the street and dirt by rocks let a lone going down. As for passengers on my bike I take that as my responsibility. That person is trusting there life in my hands.

Yeah, we used to kid my mom that the full face helmet meant there'd be an open casket at the funeral. Hell, we were too stupid at the time to know it was more truth than joke. Had one brother working for Yamaha and one for Honda at the time. 13 motorcycles in the garage that year...

Im trying to find out the status on her today. I dont really know her and it was my first time riding with this group. But even with a full recovery it will have taken an attractive and turned her face into one big scar.

I hope she's OK. Hopefully the ass that let her ride without the helmet will help out with the plastic surgery. I mean, it's not like he doesn't care about her, right?

Damn, shitty news, man. I'm the only guy in the small group of biker friends that wears a full face. I might have stated this before..but..every time I've gone down, I've bounced my dome off of the deck. I hope that girl recovers.

Update she is supposedly doing fine now. And went in for plastic surgery to conceal any scaring that would occur.

eh, i dont condone ppl not wearing helmets at the least. nor do i feel bad for them when they get hurt because of not being safe. im glad theres a helmet law in california, i also dont let my passengers ride without jeans and a jacket. You know what though, riding with a passenger is tough if the passenger doesnt know wat the F is going on. They can easily make u fall if they are being stupid, let alone if the driver is being stupid as well. I always see riders go down with their passengers, and its always guys that are new to riding. I cant understand it, why do people have to be so retarded. Sorry, people always tell me you cant avoid falling, but ive never fallen, and i attribute it to not riding in groups, it only takes one moron for everyone else to start riding stupid and ahead of themselves.

Well...thats why whenever I had a girl on my bike, she kept her arms wrapped around me. I lean, she leans. Having her goods up against me is just a bonus.

problem is, sometimes they dont want to lean with you because they are scared. no matter how much you tell them to. or even lean too much and come off the lean way late! (ive had this happen once) as a rider you gotta be ready for everything. They attribute driving a motorcycle needing as much concentration as a jet pilot.

To all the people who think they are masters of their own destiny and it's their own prerogative blablablabla. What you really are is selfish. None of you are utterly alone. We all (hopefully) have those who love, care and SUFFER with us. Tanya you have children do you not? Not picking on you but just making a point because I ride and I do. I want them to see Dad taking responsible measures, I want to see them taking responsible measures.
I'm sorry for this girl but she and her family are now reaping the consequences of a dumb choice. Every jab of pain, every look in the mirror a reminder. No thanks.

Hope things work out for her.
My doctor call's em donor cycles....consequences for everthing.
Makes me sad, I,ve spent to many days in the hospital looking at buds with stainless in their body.
I've spent to many days myself getting brain scans as a result of a bad brain. Waitng and talking with people who use to have a good brain, since crippled by a tramautic accident, who lived the " live free or die attitude".
Joplin, sang "freedoms just another word for nothing else to lose". Life's are valuable commodties, they are worth saving... a few freedoms an be sacrificed.
I coud live with no left arm, but would have a tough time living as a vegetable.
Please wear a helmet.

My name is Morgan and my nickname is "mOrgan Donor." Some of the guys at work came up with that one after I showed up on the GSX-R. Nice guys...:loser:
I'm a full face all the way. Besides ... my face is far to preaty to risk. (But I still don't think it should be a law. Darwin can be your best friend.)

Living as a vegetable would bother you less (well, not at all actually) but have a much larger impact on your friends and family... And unfortunately, most the people riding without the helmets and other protective gear have already had kids so Darwin's theory really doesn't apply...
Doesn't need to be a law to make sense. Lots of laws don't. I saw a kid today with shorts, no shirt, no helmet and SANDALS, on a motorcycle. Jesus, hasn't anyone he knows ever seen road rash? or told him about it?

Laws are not in place to protect the stupid. They are to protect everyone else from the stupid!
When a law is made to protect for the lowest common denominator of society "from themselves" ALL of society has to unfairly abide and be prosecuted by it.
Some people can't eat with a fork without taking thier eye out. Does that mean nobody can eat with a fork? As a matter of fact ... forks should be banned as restricted weapons 'cause somebody got stabbed in the face with one and lost an eye!!!!
Soon there would be a 15 day waiting period before you could even purchase a fork and you have to keep it in a locked case so kids didn't accidentally "fork" one another.
Fork that!
Protect yourself, accept responsibility for your own actions, and leave everyone elso alone to do the same.
(This is funny ... I'm 100% for full face helmates ... and 100% against a law for it!):iocrunks2:

You know what the problem is? Sport bikes attract way too many stupid people because of how cool they are. The fact is, is its an awesome sport, and an awesome hobbie that if you're smart about it can provide you with years and years of great times. Its the flippin' melon heads that go out and buy a super sport (read 600 or 1000) as a first bike just to impress the ladies that wreck the sport for those of us that can actually be called enthusiests.
You can usually tell which ones are the losers, they learn to do a wheelie first, and then figure out how to turn a corner some time later.
And just for the record, I'm a huge advocate for helmet laws. Frankly, I think there should be a law for full leathers, or at least full body protection (sometimes it's hot in the summer, I know).
And the reason is that if enough retards die cause they don't know how to ride and on top of that don't protect their bean, eventually the laws that be are gonna take bikes off the road all together. So for all of our sakes, wear your damn helmet!
Oh yeah, as for newbies starting on a 600 or 1000cc, follow my lead, I bought a 1985 Honda Nighthawk 450, and rode that for a few years before getting a CBR600F4i. Now, six years later, I have my pride and joy, a 2000 Honda RC51. Brilliance on two wheels I say!
Anyway, sorry for the rant, I get worked up sometimes.

^^ agreed. One of my friends is in the market for a sprort bike.
So we found a 1988 honda hurricane 600. Looked nice in the pics on craigslist. So we went to check it out.
We went to the town and waited at a gas station for the guy to meet us. Up cruises an alero on 20's kid has huge scar on his arm and leg from road rash. Not the owner of the hurricane. So we follow this guy to the bike. Right into the small town ghetto. And theres the bike huge piece of junk. I mean really beat up all plastics are destroyed. The front brake lever is missing. Etc.
A few minutes later and the kid that owns the bike shows up on a 06 honda 900. No shirt on and scraped up. (had helmet though) I mean these guys were bottom of the barrel dumbass's. That just shouldnt ride motorcycles in general.
The 900 was laid down on the way to meet us. As well as by the guy that met us. Bike was really on the fast track to being destroyed completely. Turns out the kid thats selling the hurricane had bought an 06 gsxr 600 having never rode before and a week later totaled it trying to impress some "hotties" on a wheelie. Messed up his knee. and got a bunch of rash out of the deal.
Then the guys couldnt find the key to start the bike so we got a little annoyed and told them when they find the key to give us a call and ride the bike to our town.
So they find it and the kid agrees to meet us. I ride my bike down to meet the kid and my buddy drives his car. We see him come around the corner he gives it some throttle and all of a sudden it starts making a horrible noise. Im thinking oh great what now.
He blew a spark plug right out of the cylinder head. Stripped it. Ah shoot right. I offer to try and fix it for him really quick so he can at least make it home. The kid follows me to my shop and we tear his bike apart to get it done.
Heres the biggest kicker He has turrets syndrom!! And mentions repeatedly how hot my buddies friend is and how he wants to f@!k her. So we are both pretty annoyed and pissed off at this point. WE couldnt get a new plug in so we both agreed to just say screw it and send him on his way.
But yeah there are way too many idiots that want to look "cool" to impress the "hotties"
