On approaching the 16th year of my life, we decided it would be best if I got a car to drive around when that fateful day arrives. Dad and I searched and searched for a likely cantidate and we stumbled upon a 1992 Lexus SC300 that was being sold by Xat Racing. Dad seemed intrigued by this car and this is something that you do not see very often from my dad when shopping for cars. After a couple days of deliberation, my 1992 SC300 was on it's way to Ohio from Florida. The cost: $7k shipped from the Grove State.

It's got a few things wrong with it, but that's understandable since the car is 15 years old. It's got faded bumpers, a dent on the passenger side 1/4, a few lights out in the gauge cluster, and a few other misc. things. The car has only 97,000 miles on the ODO and it runs very strong.

I'm sure that you guys are tired of hearing about this car and not seeing it, so with no further adue, I present my new DD:

I didn't have a chance to wash the car before I took these pics, so just bear with me. See if you guys can find the rarity of this car. ;)

Rare? Whatever... I have one just like it, but with the gold trim package. Same color and everything.

Srsly, $7k for a 5-spd SC isn't too bad. They're nice DDs, but they eat gas like it's free.

congratulations... your daily driver is just as fast, probably handles, and is immensely more comfortable to drive than your project car. lol.

Nice, I wouldn't mind having one of those. You should swap the GTE motor and TT brakes into that car and get rid of the Mk2.

Hey, I say keep the Mk2!! It'll turn heads like the new one never will. Not to say its not a nice car, I'm impressed with it being a 5-speed. I didn't know they even put them out manual.

But seriously, the Mk2 is still the one.

NOO! I considered replacing my mk2 with a soarer or an mr2 but I decided the only replacement for a mk2 is another mk2 (OK, maybe a mk4 but let's be realistic). You just can't match the combination of price, performance, potential, and looks that that the mk2 offers.

Thanks for all the compliments guys!

There isn't any way that I'd ever let my MkII go. No way, no how. I've fallen in love with it, and I honestly don't think even a MKIV would do the trick. Since I was bitten by the boost bug, I don't think I'll ever get rid of my MkII.

The SC3 will be getting a few mods now, but nothing major. It'll be getting a new wheel/tire combo, lowering springs, new shocks, and a few other little things. This car will be my DD through HS, so it has to be driveable until then. After HS though, that's when the fun starts. :good:

I used to hate kids like you, back in my highschool days.

...nice ride though, hope you can see these words through the envy.

Like Billy said. For me it was the girl with the 87' MKIII 2 tone that her daddy gave her.

Seriously, Sweet ride Alex.

Har! So true. A guy in my graduating class had a '04 GTO as his daily and a '05 ZO6 as his "fun car". You're not quite in that extreme but you are a lucky kid.

for me its this kid whos parents bought him a 2002 jeep with nice tires, brush guard, tint, pay for his gas, and there was a $2,000 guitar inside
but i will say that that is a sweet car you have there and should make a great DD while the supra gets special treatment (since you wont have to drive it everyday)

You'll sell it. I said the same thing myself when I was your age with my 84 (of course that was 15 years ago LOL). Sold it a week after I graduated college when I bought a new car. In fact, I'm almost at the same point again with my 85 right now. So much for progress :loser:

Right on, Alex. Why didn't your dad let you use the MK2 as a DD?

I'm a little jealous. Only a bit, though. The SCs only really ever did it for me as engine donors.

Nice car, though.

At least his parents aren't buying him a new $30,000 sports car. Altho I advocate for teens having to get a summer job and work for the money to buy a car, teaching them responsibility and all, I can understand a parent pitching in enough just to see that they don't get a piece of junk, that the parent is going to be going out to fetch the kid home every time his car breaks down. I guess $7,000 isn't out of the realm of reality when it comes to getting something reliable that would last through college. Altho most kids for the same money probably ought to be put in a later model 4-cylinder Accord, at least our fellow here is a car nut and will probably be so freaked out that he might get a scratch in the paint that he won't do anything crazy in it. Having recently aquired a Lexus for a DD myself, "good choice."

Very nice, I likey. Although your shift knobe looks kinda like it was a dogs chew toy, but that can be easily replaced.

Nice choice. I would have gone that route for a daily if they did not put down a foot of salt and get a shit ton of snow each winter (the reason for my A8 and now my A6).

Good luck with it, they are a sweet car!

Who says you can only mod one car at a time? No need to sell anything, enjoy them both...

Too old, too fast, no airbags, etc. It was a bunch of reasons; he's just trying to be as good dad, and I respect him for looking out for my "best interest".

Scott, nice try, but Whitey stays for now. :)

When I was in high school there was a girl who's dad got a 69 firebird, did a ground up restoration and full rebuild and she drove it to school every day!!!

I was driving a 71 lesabre that was saved from the crusher for $25...

Good luck with your Lexus.. BASTARD... LOL!!!

Yep, you just became one of those kids that I hated in high school. Good thing I graduated before those 2 fucks with mk4's came to my school.

My dd through highschool was a 1990 saab 900 3 door 5 speed. Awesome little car.
But I do agree with Pdupler if you have to earn the money to buy the car it means much more. IMHO
